quick question....is there a big differance in the grip between a glock 23 with the extended pinky mag when compared to the G27?

You got it backwards

The pinky extension goes on the 27. The 23 has a grip that fits the entire hand as it is.

thanks Jose....youre right. I'm a rookie at this and just trying to get some info when i'm ready for my 1st purchase.

IMO, get a Glock 19 and don't look back.

Pre-ban mags are a dime a dozen. I'll take fifteen 9x19s over thirteen 40s any day.

A g27 is a fistful of gun. Probably not the best choice for a beginner.

Make sure you try before you buy. Maybe if you live near someone on here they'll let you try some of their guns.

I have a G23.....love it. A 27 is a lot to handle, but you're not going to be doing IDPA with it either, I would imagine,,

If you need it, it's a good piece

if it'll be a range gun, i'd go with the larger frame. if it's going to be a CCW, i'd get used to using the small one.

EDT: sry.. floating off topic..

When I was trying g23s i found the front arc of the magwell a bit rough on the pinky but, i've learned a death grip isn't necessary...Maybe the pinky ext. on the 27 will be more comfortable initially.

Red Leg What is your location? I own a 23 and may have some free time to let you test drive her depending on your location. no luck on a 27 though.

If he wants a .40 then he should get one. I own a G27, and its the only gun I would carry concealed other then a G33. I shoot my G27 a lot, I have 1,500 rounds through mine and it looks brand new still.

Also, preban mags are not that easy to find in MA.

i was active army and shot the crap out of m16's, but never a side arm..i used to drive a captain he offered me to shoot his sidearm but i would have to clean it.....good try capt.....recently a friend took me out and i got to shoot his handguns, a glock g36, hk 45, a bauer 1911 45 and a springfield 9mm....out of all of them i shot the g36 the best wich i thought was weird cause its got the smallest grip out of all of them. if i saw it right, glock has a sub compact 45 and a full frame 45, nothing in between. basiclly, i;m looking for opinions on the grip of a sub compact glock and a compact with a pinky extension mag. my state of mind is home defense and conceal......to mess things up even more.......im also considering a sig p229.
Tater: im in haverhill. ive had a couple of nice guys to offer me to shoot their sig 229 40's but havent taken them up on their offer yet.

I have to ask you guys that say "get a ultra compact for CCW" as if it were some law of the universe, do you all wear just spandex?

I mean, I wear normal clothes and have absolutely no trouble concealing full size pistols like M&P9s and Glock 17s. And I'm not a huge guy either.

Wear a proper belt, a holster that hugs your side, and an untucked shirt.

Glock 27 pretty small and light. Glock 36 is a bit longer on the slide compare to the 27. The grip is a bit longer which helps. Glock 30 fat ass and kinda hard for me to CC. I have a side by side pic of all 3 and I'll post it up for you when I get home.

I rather get use my Glock 36 than my 27.

A G30 and G23 are relatively the same size...the 30 a tad heavier, a 1/4" thicker in the grip.

IME, full size pistols are more comfortable to conceal because the longer length of the pistol below the belt line acts as a lever to tuck the butt of the gun in. This leads to less printing and no feeling that the butt of the gun is "flopping around" unless you tighten your belt excessively.

i agree.

for me, it's either my PPS, G23 (recently found a new home with my brother - so a G19 for me [smile]) or my 1911. what a combo, huh?

i also make it a point to carry ALL my guns at least once a year... *not all at the same time, but just to "keep options open"... so being that most of my pistols are full size, i agree.

*however, the PPS is awsome. pocket or IWB [smile]
