Got me a squirrel this morning!

Pretty sure you can shoot an animal in MA even if it’s not game animal / in season, if it is damaging your home or property. He was destroying your crops, pretty sure you are in the clear (as long as 500’ from road other building).
150ft from road
500ft from occupied building unless a range or with permission of all within 500 ft

But air rifles don't have the distance requirements yes?

Can get one fo those 308 winnie air rifles then

re: distance

"Hunting" setback is the same, irrespective of type of implement.

ETA: General Law - Part I, Title XIX, Chapter 131, Section 58

Correct......and in mass those setbacks don't even change for archery.
The prohibition says firearms and arrows…air rifles aren’t firearms are they? Serious question…they weren’t before the new law, but I don’t know what the new law did to air rifles if anything…🙄

Section 58. A person shall not discharge any firearm or release any arrow…

It also says "or HUNT by any means". I don't think it gets much clearer than that. You gotta read the whole section not just the one that proves the point you like.

A person shall not discharge any firearm or release any arrow upon or across any state or hard surfaced highway, or within one hundred and fifty feet, of any such highway, or possess a loaded firearm or hunt by any means on the land of another within five hundred feet of any dwelling in use, except as authorized by the owner or occupant thereof
