GSG-5

I just picked one of these up last week and was very impressed....until i shot it. I put ten rounds of CCI mini mag in it and on the third round, no fire. The round was properly chambered but the firing pin just clicked. I ejected the round fired two more and on the 6th round same thing. I repeated all of these actions continuously mag after mag until finally on the third mag i was so frustrated i hip shot like rambo and emptied it. Whats the deal?? anyone else having this problem?? [mg][angry2]

You may want to take a look at the fired shells. Does it look like you're getting a light primer strike? These guns are known for light hits, and there's actually a mod to fix it. Another thing, are you holding the mag and well or the foregrip when shooting? If you're holding the mag and well that may be a problem also, but that usually causes FTF's.

Arfcom has a whole sticky on GSG mods. You may want to check it out.

nope im definately holding the foregrip. I didnt pay to much attention to the shells. I was gonna strip her down and give her a good cleaning and lubing and see if that does anything after that im gonna have to figure something eles out. do all these mods do anything to void the warranty? im guessing so?[sad2]

Be careful not to lose the bolt hold open spring when you tear it down (it's real easy to lose).

Firing pin mod...

Before you do anything, try some different ammo first.

If you're still having FTF's and don't want to screw around with the firing pin, contact Ray Caton at Amchar or Michael Swoboda at GSG...

From everything I've read, GSG/ATI have been providing excellent customer service.

thanks ill have to try the different ammo first, i hope its nothing major i love this thing such a badass firearm and cheap to shoot!

HK, try different ammo. I'm at 3k plus rounds through mine now and I've never had a FTF. I shoot the Federal Bulk rounds.

Has anyone else had any issues to date with their GSG-5? I was reading up on the AR forum and there seems to be a few with barrel issues...actually splitting at the ejector port (groove in the barrel). Take a look and check yours. Although it does seem to be the older first generation rifles with the issue. It appears the manufacturer is installing somewhat thicker walled barrels now. Don't know, like it alot but think I need to wait to let everyone else work out the bugs. This isn't a cheap firearm and my 10/22 is sooooo dependable!

I just got back from taking out my GSG for the first time. I was starting to have some regrets about buying it but not anymore!

800+ rounds of Federal bulk ammo with only one stoppage that was caused by my holding the magazine instead of the forearm of the rifle.

All rounds into a fist size hole, blew out the 9 and 10 rings completely, then I started sending rounds through the hole so I lost track of the accuracy after that. [smile]

This thing is a blast!

. I realized that because I live in Devalistan I can't add a folding or collapsing stock to it

You're going to have to humor me here on this 'cause I'm a noob but I thought that as long as you met the 18" barrel and 26" overall length you were ok.

Where can I find the MA specific requirements? Anyone have a link?

Thanks!

Question...if the MA legal one only holds 10 rounds, does that mean an FID holder could purchase one? If I get my FID, I'd love to be able to buy a "black gun," but I'm almost positive ARs are out of the picture because they hold more than 10 rounds..Would this be an option?

I believe you are out of luck. Regardless of the fact that we can only have ten rounds in MA, there are 25 rounds available for this rifle therfore making it a high capacity rifle and requireing a LTC-B.

Gotcha. I was worried that was the case. So am I mostly going to be restricted to Garands and other old guns?

*edit* Not that I have anything against them, but I do have an affection for the modern.

The length requirements are true. The problem is that because the GSG is a semi auto with a detachable magazine and conspicuous pistol grip it already has the maximum allowable amount of evil features under the assault weapons ban.

If one were to add a retractable stock, flash suppressor, or bayonet lug to the rifle it would be illegal because it would violate the assault weapons ban we still live under here in MA.

I do plan on adding a retractable stock, but it will be pinned permanently open and within legal length requirements.

Oh, and the minimum barrel length is 16", not 18". [grin]

I went looking for one for myself tonight. But every where I went they are all sold out. I was hoping to get one before I leave for Iraq at the end of Jan. But it is not looking to good for me and a GSG-5. :( Good luck with yours and every time you hold it and shoot, just think that I am drooling out of envy.

Picked one up over the weekend and threw a couple hundred rounds though it. One ftf but the round looked a bit screwy. Threw it off to the side and she was eating up .22's like a champ again.
I love this thing! My son loves it bunches too [smile]
He was at mom's so he missed out on trying it out Sun. morning but can't wait to make it down to the range.

RANGE UPDATE: Put about 600 rounds through the GSG5 last night. On a side note, I never cleaned it (just a bore snake) since the last 150 rounds I put through it back in August or so. Tonight I only had 2 stove pipes and no other glitches what so ever. I spent the last 100 rounds doing double taps and mag dumps just to see if it would jam up on me...but it was good to go. I am very pleased with it.

I have also added a $40 red dot for it off gunbroker and it is actually just as accurate as my 10/22.

GSG5

I also bought one of those GSG5's to add to my HK collection. It has the looks and feel of the big brother. I have fired CCI Mini Mags and Walmart Federal #750 bulk box in it, and have not had one failure. Have an Aimpoint style red dot scope on it, and have added it to my custom built Ruger
10/22's to shoot steel plate matches at my club. Once the members checked it out, several have already bought one.

Here are a few pictures of the Ruger's...........[grin]

i picked up a high claw mount, and red dot site for $80 at north shore firearms. works excellent. side note: i've put about 2500 rounds through this puppy, and hasn't jammed up at all, with never cleaning!!! trying to push to see how far it will go!

Wow, that's pretty impressive for a GSG. What type of ammo are you using?
