My buddy moved to peabody and they renewed his unrestricted ltc with a hunting and target ltc a few months back. Screwed him good
Hi all. Unfortunately, for reasons I will not get into, I will be moving from the great state of NH, to the Socialist Republic of MA. I am obviously not happy about this, but this will happen in the next year or so.
I work in Boston, and my wife will work in Rockland. Can anyone suggest some towns that would be good for a gun owner? I know the list is helpful, but the list isnt totally solid, as some decent green towns will restrict people once in awhile.
Things to think of for my situation...
Licensing authority being pro gun, and not likely to restrict our LTCs.
Distance to a gun club
Commuting no more than 50 miles to Boston.
Able to commute to Rockland in about 45 minutes. (Rockland is a bitch to get to I understand from certain areas).
General lifestyle - I prefer rural or spread out suburbs
House rentals availability
Distance to gun shops or other fun places.
Suggestions?
Anyone have any Experience in Peabody?
I know that they are RED on the list, but I was hoping that things have changed.

Picked up my LTC-A Unrestricted today. 7 weeks total wait. Not sure why I was issued unrestricted in a red town as im not a special circumstance, but i'm definitely not complaining!

i got an unrestricted in Lawrence about a year ago now
I just moved to Foxborough from Canton (I was issued a B in Canton because I was a first time applicant) and have an interesting experience:
When I first contacted the SGT in Foxborough who helps to process the forms, he found that he was extremely helpful. I told him that I was looking to go for an A, and he said that I would essentially be applying for a new LTC, HOWEVER, because of the fact that the CoP in Canton issued me a B, the Foxborough CoP will not issue me an A right away.
On a positive note, he straightened this out for me before he took my $100 for a new application, so at least I didn't waste any money on it. On the negative side, I don't have an A, and I was told to reapply after a year, after I've demonstrated that I've been a responsible citizen. Anyone else have a similar experience and/or advice? I've been waiting to bring my AR-15 into the state since I separated from active duty last year and I'm getting a bit pissed at this point.
so, he said he couldnt do anything because Canton already issued a B, but then said to come back after a year? In other words, he couldve called Canton and asked them to expire your license, but he would rather dick you around. Move next door to Mansfield, we are much more gun friendly!
No, I don't believe that's correct. You can't have two of the same license. Some people have both and FID and and LTC and the LTC/A and LTC/B are different licenses. In fact a long time ago I had both an LTC/B and and LTC/A.I'm not sure this was even necessary. You can't have 2 LTCs at the same time, so "upgrading" from B to A requires a new fee and when the LTC-A is issued, I'm pretty sure (not 100% positive as I never asked) that the issuance would AUTOMATICALLY expire the LTC-B.

I didn't say it made sense, only that it was possible.Having a valid A and B wouldn't make any sense . . . but then again, what in MA actually makes sense?
I guess I'll just have to ask Jason next time I talk/Email him. I'll create a new bucket of questions.

Sounds like the COP believes that since the person was issued an LTC-B, they aren't trustworthy enough (rather than "this is Canton's policy") and thus will not "overrule" their position until an arbitrary amount of time goes by with no incidents.
BTW, assuming whatever course FragSleever took actually "did their job" in teaching MA gun laws, he should have known that a LTC-B is adequate for any <legal to possess in MA> long gun. That said, unless his AR is a pre-ban, he needs to be aware that EOPS position is to prosecute people who modify the guns to meet the MA AWB! So if the S/N of the gun can be traced back to a post-ban AW, he might want to leave it out of state and pick up a pre-ban or a MA-neutered post-ban version to be safe.
I think the only thing you'd need to do to make that one compliant is to perm. attach the muzzle brake. FSC556?
The impression that I got was that he didn't want to contradict another chief's ruling. God forbid someone makes a rational decision, even if it exposes one of their peers...
I built it while I was living in WA (post ban receiver) but because I saw "AR-15" on the Large Cap Weapons Roster, I figured that I couldn't bring it into MA without an A regardless of the fact that it's MA compliant (fixed stock, no lugs, and a compensator with an ATF letter). Now obviously I wouldn't be bringing one of these evil post ban 30 round magazines with it, but here it is:

To say that I'm a bit confused now is a bit of an understatement...
any idea if Foxboro will issue an unrestricted LTCA? They have been kind back and forth-ish in the past. I now people who are both restricted and unrestricted from that town....
Middleton is absolutly a red town. I am embarrassed to say that I am currently a resident here. The chief is one of the rudest, most ignorant officers I have ever delt with. Me and my fiancé just applied for our class a. We are both first timers but we both have a substantial amount of firearms experience. I had two police references and she is a veteran. The chief would not even give us the opportunity to argue the point. We are young (both 24) but you would figure with our backgrounds and experience he would be a little more understanding, not only that but we had to wait over 2 weeks just get our interview with him after he blew us off. I am probably just venting but after our experience we are more than likely moving in the near future and re-applying. If you are a first timer do not apply to middleton and expect to get a class a its a waste of time.
Jeebus, I just had a DERP moment and realized that I was reading an old EOPS roster that had "Class A Required" instead of "Class A or B LTC Required".
I asked the SGT about that, and here's where it got interesting: he said that the chief usually issues A's (no guarantees on "unrestricted" though) but because I currently have a B (and because I'm a new Foxborough resident), I had to go through a probationary period and reapply after a year.
thats sickening. do you rent or own? if you rent, come rent from me one town over!
Norton is now requiring applicants to be 21...

That's law for LTC. FID is 18 of I think younger with parental consent but I may be wrong on that one.
