At the family gathering for Christmas yesterday, my Grandfather showed me the old double-barrel shottie that his brother used to keep around, but never used much. It's a Baker Gun Co. Batavia Leader with serial number 10xxxF. The "F" in the suffix leads me to its manufacture being between 1919 and 1933, after the Fulsom buyout of Baker. Does anyone know a resource that may contain a serial number database for this old breakover 12ga?

It's mine eventually, but for now I'm trying to get a value for Grandpa to satiate his curiosity (he was recently offered $275, but has no interest in selling it - it's freakin' cherry!), and a more precise date of manufacture to satiate mine. [grin]

Shideler's 2008 Standard Catalog of Firearms estimates range $275 for poor condition to $550 for excellent. The F indicates it was one of the new ones, made after the 1919 buy-out by H & D Folsom.

Thank you, Ken.

Mr. Haines will be grateful for that knowledge. I am, as well. [grin]

I'll have to "stop by" and clean the bore out real good to gauge the final grade, but she looks much closer to "excellent" than "poor." The color patterns on this gun are beautiful; when it's passed down, I'll be mounting and displaying it, rather than taking pheasant.
