Is there a new trick to installing the plunger tube spring assembly, in a 1911?

I read an article that said, that the spring is supposed to be kinked. But that makes no sense to me.

The spring is kinked to keep it in the plunger tube. If you install the assembly without the suggested kink (just enough to create a little friction between the spring and tube) it can fall out when you remove the thumb safety. The pistol will function just fine with no kink in this spring, it just might fall out of the gun on disassembly. No big deal.
