It’s Ladies’ Night at the Gun Range: Luxury shooting complexes offer country club amenities to woo a new wave of firearm owners

He tells prospective clients that old-school ranges—what he calls “stale, pale and male”—had better evolve so as “not to become the next RadioShack or Linens ‘n Things.”
Hard to disagree with that assessment. Overall, it’s good to just see folks encouraging others to give it a try whether for fun, personal defense or competition. I know a lot of folks will gripe about a country club atmosphere and the inevitable high cost, but the reality is that people generally like a more upscale experience and I think are willing to pay for it. Sure, there will be a lot of fudds, but still better to get folks into the sport and educated about guns and gun ownership than just leaving them with the stupid misconceptions and bias they get from the media. Some states like TX and FL seem to be really building out upscale ranges that have a lot of amenities. But you do need folks with deep pockets.

There has been one of these type ranges in the planning stages, town approved, and located near the Eagle Brook Saloon, for many years now. The plans remind me of a total country club atmosphere for firearms enthusiasts. I was told by the prospective owner that membership costs will be close to 3X the cost of nearby ranges or more. Are there enough deep pockets in the area? Sure are, but are there enough firearms owners or potential firearms owners to keep the range in business in the area? I guess we will have to wait and see once it's built, if it ever is, what happens. I hope it does get built as membership prices can be easily modified but getting town approval and the funds to build can be a daunting task. The cost to build will easily be in the multi, multi millions. I only wish the owner well too because more visibility regarding firearms ownership in the Commiewealth is only a plus for all of us and he is a great guy too!

Girl-Shooters I see at the range are still a relatively novelty item. Most of the time it's their boyfriends, husbands, etc bringing them in as a +1. Hopefully in a couple years, Girl-Shooters will be not that big a deal anymore just like Girl-Gamers used to be unicorns back in 2005 but tons of girls are "gamers" or at least IRL streamers now.

More are showing up at comps just in the last year. They are all better than me too…(everyone is…)

Yeah, I love being a member of one of these clubs if it was close.. private, lockers, liquor, and cigars nice chairs… pool table or whatever.

But I’m broke as a joke.. I got some dead accumulated that I’m probably never gonna be able to pay off without selling off my collection anyway

I do need some target practice though. I’m sure it still shoot pretty good, but it is a perishable skill.

Doesn't work at all

If you're a firearm enthusiast, the article won't likely be news. 'Gee, it turns out that people other than straight, white, rural, conservative men can enjoy shooting. In the past 5 years lots of people have developed an interest in firearms.'

My club is a charter for A Girl and a Gun .org and we fully support them. Over the past couple years their member base has grown quite a bit. Very positive backing to have women on our side of the 2a war.
