It’s over, I’ve lost it…..

Those things are everywhere here. Most farms have one (or more). When we drive into town there are sometimes more of those than cars.
same around here.
more sxs at mcdonalds than cars, wait until the snow starts falling, all sleds and sxs.

i also though OP was talking about a vehicle at first.
clays is fun to shoot, OP probably ain't a FUDD, so infiltrate the group and turn them red blooded american again!!

"The FUDD is strong in this one." You're not alone. It happens with age. I started shooting clays about 5 years ago and never looked back.

With the right chokes, s SxS makes a great skeet gun. Might be a bit of a handicap for sporting clays, but it's all about how YOU shoot your gun.

And 12 gauge will always give you much more flexibility when it comes to ammo selection.

There's nothing more fun than breaking clays with a classic pump or SxS that's older than you are. If it puts a smile on your face, the rest is just details.

Nothing wrong with being a Fudd, it just means you're taste in firearms isn't in your ass.

Get your next SxS in God's Perfect Gauge - 16ga.

No, you won't find them new, but new guns suck anyway.

I admit, some of those side-by-sides sure are purdey:
or for mere mortals:

It’s happened. I’ve hit my breaking point. I can no longer control myself any more. I have to admit, I’ve entered a FUDD like stage. I just caught myself taking a deep dive on Side by Sides.

Am, I, becoming indoctrinated? Is the communism taking hold of me?

I’m kinda worried to be honest! I shoot skeet or sporting clays three out of four Sundays a month, my favorite gun to shoot is an O/U, I have one of them stupid vests. I even bought a flat cap… I’m only 40! The 22 year old me would be so disappointed.

Maybe it’s not that bad, Saturday is still for the boys. The Gentleman shoot on Sunday.

So, 20 gauge it stick with 12?
Loving fine doubles does NOT make you a FUDD.

Hating black guns makes you a FUDD.

HUUGGEEE difference. I love them both.

If you ever find yourself saying:
1) I dont understand why anyone needs more than 10 rounds
2) You shouldn't hunt with a semi automatic rifle
3) I can kill anything that flies with my .410.
than you are a FUDD.

The great thing about fine doubles is that when there is a panic going on and everyone is buying the latest high capacity black and FDE high tech wunderweapon, the market for these classics gets soft.

I bought a Fox and a Beretta during the panic of 2013 after Sandy hook and I bought a Parker Reproduction during the panic of 2016. All the money was going into black guns. I got a deal on all of them. Loving classic "FUDDy" guns opens up the wonderful world of countercyclical gun buying during panic times.

This is my Parker Repro and Shadow The Wonder Dog after a good day.

I’m in my mid-40s and picked up skeet and clays in my early 20s. Lots of periods when I couldn’t shoot because life was happening, but I’m looking forward to getting back into it over the next couple of years.

I still have my original Citori I bought in the late 90s/early 00s and added a Beretta 682 Gold E Skeet along the way, and a Benelli earlier this year. The bug doesn’t go away. Welcome to the madness!!

Liking a side by side is not being a FUDD.

A FUDD is a state of mind.

Shooting clays can be fun, I enjoy it. The only reason I don't do it is because I am already dumping money into other shooting sports and don't need to worry about buying shotgun ammo on top of all the other sh*t I have to worry about.
This.....Im the opposite.

Being a FUDD is being anti black rifle or pistol.....its a mindset. I'll admit one my Dad had until I opened his eyes on why these things are important, and why .gov wants to take them away. For a long time he was in the "you don't need one" mindset. After I got into building them and stuff, it changed his mind......

However, I spend more on Shotgun stuff than black stuff overall and shoot more shotgun sports.

However on occasion like recently moving....Im replacing all my glocks and bought an AK pistol and building a 300 BLK pistol.....getting all the stuff I wanted to own not being in MA.

Then Ill go back to selling and buying shotguns again likely......with more time on my hands to reload......be adding 28 gauge guns to the collection.

Bingo! I shoot skeet with a 100+ year old Ithaca 12 Ga SxS with double trigger and 24" open choke barrels. The fellas at the skeet field get a laugh when I pull up on my Road Glide and take my shotgun out of the saddlebag and assemble it. It has seen tens of thousands of rounds down the tubes and it simply hits where I look.

Fudd guns are alright, I don't see a problem with people owning them, as others have said: it's the attitude of fudds that people don't like. If you want to stick with over/unders and revolvers, then fine; but don't tell the rest of us or advocate that we can't have semi-auto mag-fed guns.

A lot of FUDDS were de-FUDDed in CT in 2013. That's when they realized that they were after EVERYONE'S guns. Not just the evil black rifle.

Prior to 2013, no license was required to buy a long gun or ammo in CT. Many FUDDS didn't have any of those licenses. They also didn't pay attention to politics.

So when the Bill 1160, AN ACT CONCERNING GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND CHILDREN'S SAFETY.
(Its always about the children)
passed into law, none of them knew.

October 2013 rolls around and they go out to buy their one box of 30-06 for deer season and find they can't buy ammo!!!

I had older FUDDY guys I knew asking me to buy ammo for them. F#$k YOU I told them. Drive to RI and buy your 20 rounds per year.

After that, and when I sent them testimony of several congressmen stating that you should only have a single shot rifle because that's what was around in 1790, they realized that this was a "boil the frog" type situation and any creeping oppression needed to be opposed.

I have a sneaky suspicion that the legislation that passed this summer will do the same thing to MA FUDDS.

Is that why people buy t-shirts at shows?

I go to shows all the time, the two reasons I hear everyone say are:

1. Because it helps the band -- this is true.
2. Because they like the shirt.

I wear band shirts often, I never thought about it as "it proves I was there".
I have Ozzfest, Mayhem Fest and Fkking Slayer lot shirts going back to 2004. I wear them often to get disgusted looks from bit h Karen's and other non believers

I feel I may have overburdened myself. I have three items that are non negotiable for this acquisition. Color case hardening, extractors, and interchangeable chokes. Preferably in Mobil threading.

Just mo but don't rule out an older double. If you look around you can find Parker Trojans and up, Fox Sterlingworths and up that were restocked to better dimensions (less drop, more cast, etc) for exactly your purpose. Theyre out there. More recently CSMC had some target guns as well. Fit trumps chokes imo - unless the chokes are just way too open.

Yeah. I could see if you have farm land or a hunting location or something. But some rando on a busy state road in eastern mASS???? 12 Grand for a fun-mobile. I'll pass. It's still there so a LOT of people are passing despite thousands of cars driving by daily.

For $12K I could get a used Miata and Mini and tool around in those on regular roads. (Of course, then I'd have insurance and such.)

A restocked trojan is about the best deal there is on a shooter.

They are cheap but fit and shoot better than a correctly stocked DHE.

Oh, and the E stands for Ejector. Who wants ejectors these days? You just have to pick your hulls up off the ground. I never understood why this was considered to be an upgrade over extractors. Especially since original Parker ejectors were not very reliable.

I guess if you were hunting your own land with paper hulls, leaving them on the ground to decompose within a year or two was reasonable. For most of us hunting now, the idea of leaving plastic hulls behind is terrible.

Every once in a while you will find a Trojan that has been restocked and then sent to Larry DelGreggo to get the chambers reamed out to 2 3/4 and the chokes opened up, then sent to Turnbull for color case hardening.

You are then looking at a classic double that is the functional equivalent to a new gun. Gorgeous and reasonably priced.

Stopped at Kittery on the way back from up north hunting partridge. The other two guys have only been to KTP once. Spent an hour looking at all the old doubles alone. Kinda want to go back, spend some more time and pick something up. They had some interesting stuff with great patina on em.

I’m also torn. I also have a strong urge for a Kentucky Rifle Flintlock. The idea of one of those Traditions build it yourself kit is up my alley. But by most accounts the lock isn’t that great, and the two piece stock isn’t that desirable either. I know Pedersoli makes great repro, but they are kind of expensive. Especially since this is 100% a play gun I may shoot a few times a year and other wise display above my mantle.

It hasn’t been that bad $5 a round of skeet, a little more than that for a box of 7.5s. Especially if you reload, both metallic and shotshell you can stretch that cost.
Hard to relaod target loads and save money. Reloading sub gauges 16 28 and such yes
Lead shot is just to expensive

Fudds dont shoot trap or any clay sports cause its a waste of ammo

50 bucks a bag now for lead. Primers are 60 per 1k, wads 13 bucks. Powder 50 a pound. Think 12 gauge is 8 bucks a box. I can buy on sale for 8.99. 12 does not make sense unless you want a custom load or have prebought components. Similar with 20 pretty much, except your saving some more on shot as you use less.

Luckily I bought an 8# of Unique and some shot I bought a long time ago. But after that runs out that next 8# of Unique is gonna hurt.

I just reloaded 500 - 28 gauge loads yesterday. Im sure at 140 a flat for these things I probably did it for 50 a flat or less. Big savings in subgauges still.

My Father had a Savage Fox BSE SxS that he sold while I was out of state. God, I wish he had passed it on instead of selling it. If any of you guys in Leominster know who bought it, or where it's at let me know, I would love to try and get it back so I can pass it on and keep it in the family. Thank You. Paul

Have you been to the Robbins Hollow shop at Addeville East? Its insane.

Rack after rack of top grade doubles of all kinds. From old Trojans to Purdeys.

I’m not looking to spend more on a gun that what my truck is worth. If I buy used I’m looking for something old, inexpensive, and interesting. Or one of them dark colored Sharptails in 12.
