I'm looking at an AR-15 for sale. It's owned by an LEO, marked "Law enforcement only." It has the evil features (FS & stock). I assume the receiver is post ban.

Would there be any legal issue with taking off the "evil" features (i.e. upper and stock) and buying the three pieces separately? I have a pre ban receiver which would hold the upper and stock.

No legal issues. The typical snag would be convincing the seller of that. Just make certain that you don't ever get mixed up and put the evil features on the LEO lower.

I personally would be nervous of transporting the separated pieces home together. Perhaps if you brought the pre-ban lower with you and immediately mated it to your new upper, while keeping the new lower separate, it would be a less nervous ride home.

I agree with the constructive possession argument. Bring the preban lower with you, have the LEO take the stock and upper off, transfer them onto the preban lower immediately, and then you're good.
