Just found this in my dummy Email accound that I gave to the Brady's
http://www.bradycampaign.org/action/trafficking/aug28/portlandmaine.pdf

Looks like there's a protest against "Illigal Guns" in Monument Square in Portland. Like all leftie protests, its schedualed in the middle of the work week, in the middle of the day (in this case Next tuesday the 28th at noon) otherwise I'd come up to counter-protest, and maybe have dinner with my folks, and drink a Beer at Amegos.

But like most responcible members of society, I'll be at my job at this time...sady so will the news crews who I'm sure will cover this foolishness.

So Can anybody make it?

Arrrrr

Is open carry legal in Maine or not?

And does Maine state law pre-empts local government from passing their own gun control ordinances?

If the answer to both is yes, the CoP can FOAD.

Protester = Jobless

Leftists that protest a lot usually don't have jobs. Which is why they can protest during the week. At least that's what I have learned when when I have confronted some of them in Boston who have been in my face. If they do have jobs they work for Greenpeace or some other far left/socialist entity. I actually had someone agree with me that protesting paid better than Burger King.

My guess is there will be a large contingent from the Social Work department at USM. I'm pretty sure that they have to do some of this crap as part of their degree program.

EDIT: I'd go with my little guy, but I have class that day.

Yeah, you don't want to open carry in Portland. Legal technically, but you will be disarmed at best.

Probably better to carry a sign stating the approximate number of lives that guns save.

I'm only about 20 minutes from Portland...

Also, they're only looking for 32 people. How big can it get? I'd love to counter-protest, but wouldn't want to be the only guy there.

i went to there site basically its going to be bigger then 32 people they just need 32 actual people to lie down in front of what ever building its going to be. 32 people for the 32 lives lost at VT.

Good thought in theory because on there site they say they just want good effective laws on guns but we all know what that means to people that know nothing about guns.

Yup good old gun free zones. Only stops the honest people who would never actually do or think of doing such a thing.

I mean how could this happen it was a gun free zone didn't he read the sign.

PS. go to the site and go to the what we want section and just watch some of the vids i lost count on the times she said assault weapon.

I hope the police come and crop-dust them with some OC...

[rofl]

Very unlikely. I would expect to see a contingent from the PPD Administration and the Portland City Counsel giving each other [CENSORED] jobs just get their mugs on TV so they look like they are doing something. This is the district that elected Ethan Strimling ya know.

Hmmmm... From what I heard, the Chief of Police in Portland is a piece of work. If you want to go to jail, give it a shot.

That is why the lefties can get away with the sit-in there....they are welcome.
That Chief formally from Florida {Mike Chitwood} no longer works there. The guy he had arrested at the Deering Oaks Festival had a chip on his shoulder. Although Chitwood did have an agenda he did give the guy at the festival more than a few chances to avoid being arrested.

Then recover a decent law suit like the guy picked up in Deering Oaks a few years ago.

Did he get some restitution for that? I never heard the follow-up to that story. The news then was all bed-wetting liberals talking about how scary and "dangerous" it is to have law abiding people armed. Sounded a lot like "Baaaaaaa"

A couple of local TV stations covered it briefly. There did not seem \to be much of a crowd so I would guess it was a non-event mostly.

Tarrytown mother of slain teen leads gun protest
"WHITE PLAINS - Most mothers might have spent the first anniversary of a teenage daughter's death mourning privately at home, at a church or at the graveside. But Gisela Marin spent yesterday afternoon shouting in the noisy lunchtime hustle of one of Westchester's busiest intersections, where she led about 40 others in a protest calling on Congress to tighten access to handguns of the kind that another teen used when he killed her daughter, Jessica Santos, in a random, drive-by shooting in Yonkers on Aug. 27, 2006.

Think this will get the broad news distribution that the "huge crowds" press release did?

CLAIMS OF ‘HUGE’ ANTI-GUN PROTESTS WERE LIES, SAYS CCRKBA

BELLEVUE, WA – A Brady Campaign news release headline claiming that “huge” crowds turned out across America for anti-gun protests on Tuesday was both false and misleading, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said this morning. The news release went out over the national PR Newswire serviceTuesday evening at 9:56 p.m., Eastern Time.

“Careful analysis of news coverage, or the lack of it in the 24 hours following the Tuesday protests, confirm that these events were pretty much a bust,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “The biggest crowds reported were ‘about 200’ people bused to an event at Lake Barrington, Illinois, and another in Philadelphia. A Maryland protest outside a District Heights gun shop drew about 60 demonstrators, and one at Seattle’s Green Lake Park attracted two people who spent 32 seconds lying on the grass. And this was supposed to be a ‘huge’ event? That gives a whole new definition of the term ‘lie-in’ that was used to describe this protest.

“What this tells us,” he observed, “is that the public has grown tired of rants about the evils of gun ownership, and how gun rights must be restricted to ensure public safety. The proof of gun control failures is visible every day. In the wake of Virginia Tech, people are beginning to understand the insanity of so-called ‘gun free zones’ that protect nobody but crazed killers, especially when campus officials do not act quickly. Americans look at murder and violent crime statistics in Washington, DC and Chicago and realize that bans on handgun possession by honest citizens in those cities have been disastrous.

“Americans now see the gun control agenda for what it really is: a citizen disarmament campaign by Utopian extremists who have built their movement on false promises, false hopes, false hysteria and false headlines,” Gottlieb stated. “Restrictive gun laws haven’t prevented a single mass shooting, and instead have turned our shopping malls, universities and public schools into killing grounds. Indeed, there is no evidence that any of this nation’s restrictive gun laws have prevented any kind of violent crime.

“By contrast,” Gottlieb concluded, “right-to-carry statutes, stand-your-ground laws and tough Three Strikes provisions – all supported by the firearms community and consistently, and vigorously, opposed by gun control fanatics – have been proven effective. They give honest citizens the means and legal protections to fight back, and they put criminals on the run, or behind bars where they belong.”
