C'mon. Maybe 1990. I didn't notice an issue mid-80's at all. It wasn't until they expanded, then all the expansion stores went under that there was a problem. Child World became ToysRUs which became defunct. They had a Benneton and Gap in the addition. LOL. I miss Bradlees and Woolies.

In fact, in the late 70's, mom would drop me and my older brother off at the mall late AM in the summer. We'd hit Woolies for candy, walk up the hill past the shooting into the movie theater. I think we'd buy a single coke to share. Enjoy a movie. Walk down to the mall parking lot (instead of the movie theater parking lot) and mom would pick us up.

Fond memories. That and many a'dinner with my wife years ago at the Uno's on site. And swinging in a decade ago to grab a massive amount of Popeye's Chicken on my way home from somewhere.

It had a crappy parking lot layout that encouraged insane driving by the lcoal Brocktonians. Otherwise, it was a nice place back in the day.

I’m not from around here originally, so my experience is more recent. I’ve only bowled there for five years.

Pretty calm on league night. No brawls for me. Might be because I’m old and everyone else there is older.
 
Damn. I forgot the Lanes. I bowled a student league after school circa 1978 or so.

I know a son of an acquaintence LIVES (or lived - he was not bright - bought his house in 07 in Brock-Tan and was upside-down inside of a year and stuck there) in Brockton would take his kids to Westgate Lanes often. This is. . . .15 years ago. So I guess there were times it was OK. Although he didn't seem too situationally aware anyhow. LOL.

We spend a lot of time as these indoor trampoline parks these days. There's a huge difference between the ones that are in... nicer areas versus ones that are closer to... less nice areas. The more... urban ones are not surprisingly dirtier and the "kids" using them are generally shittier so we avoid them at all costs. I can't imagine what one in Brockton is like. Hell, I don't even like going to the one in Avon because of how many Brockton and Randolph types end up there.

I think it was close to 12,000 Haitians were planted in Brockton.
 
There is a significant Cape Verdean population as well. It might be larger than the Haitian population. A friend teaches in an elementary school in Brockton and she has some hair raising stories AND she teaches elementary school.

The city is out of control and the schools are worse.

Two teenagers were killed Saturday night during a fight and shooting outside several businesses in Brockton, Massachusetts.

It happened around 7 p.m. near the Westgate Mall in the parking lot not far from Starbucks and Chipotle. The area where the shootings took place is also not far from the Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park.

Stoughton was poised on the edge of the cliff when we moved and from what I'm hearing has taken the big leap off since. I feel bad for friends who can't sell and get out because it's going to crash housing prices sooner or later.

This is what I tell my FIL who lives in the nicer part of New Orleans. I showed him the addresses I was hitting while doing some work not far from his house at all. His response was always, that's x miles from here, this is still a 'good' area. Probably a million dollar property, it won't be for long.

Always fights when I went there in the mid 80's at night but the fights were between white drunk shitheads at the pool tables.
Then the demographics changed, slowly! Going into the Mall, Westgate Lanes, or the Cinema became a no go quickly. And the icing on the cake for me was when my Alpine deck got stolen out of my truck while I was inside the theater watching a movie. I was parked directly under a light too, it didn't matter. And to make matters worse, it was a chick flick that I allowed myself to get conned into going to see.
Just like going to the now defunct Brockton Fair. In the mid 80's, the Ruckusberry / Murderpan and Annex (Randolph) contingencies ruined the fun for all. It started with gang banger stabbings and raping of girls on the perimeter around 1985. The one I remember most happened behind Sears, in the small stretch of woods adjacent to the parking lot, where I used to park my car along with many others from my town. Then the "Outsiders" progressed to shootings, which brought metal detectors and only one entrance. Finally it was shutdown, never to return because the crime became so bad.

Homicide detectives with the Massachusetts State Police and Brockton police have since sought and obtained an arrest warrant for 22-year-old Davinci Leonard.

Leonard is wanted on charges of two counts of murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possessing ammunition without an FID card, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.

Cruz said Leonard is believed to have fled the scene after the shooting. He is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, about 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

“He grabbed some clothes and has not been seen since,” Cruz said of Leonard. “He is currently the only suspect in this shooting.”

Seems like “investing” in community policing and social services isn’t doing much. I had to drive in Brockton last week and the few sections I went through were Fn scary.
