Looking ahead to first wheelgun. 686 Plus vs. 686 SSR

I got your first wheel gun right here.

I love my 327 TRR8. It's my favorit

Although it doesn't list it on the website, my Pro Plus does have
• Chamfered Charge Holes
• Custom Barrel with Recessed Precision Crown
• Bossed Mainspring

Just to close out this thread. I lowered my expectations (and budget), and pulled the trigger (see what I did there?) on a S&W Model 66.

Isn't cut for moon clips, or any of the other fancy extras I thought would be critical. For what I'll use it for (range toy, home defense), it'll do just fine...

It's a sweet shooter. Took it to the range today and fed it .38 special, and three types of .357 Magnum. Wicked accurate, especially in single action. When I was doing my job it grouped nicely:

nice.

i've never shot the 66 but i wouldn't be surprised if the weight-balance on the 66 were better than my 4" 686+. i have found the full underlugs, while looking kinda cool, make the revolver rather nose heavy. this is why i love shooting the GP100 match champion with half underlug...the balance is damn perfect. dunno why this took me forever to realize....seems obvious probably to the revolver crowd.

Nice. Greg Derr did a nice trigger job on my Model 19.

I do prefer the balance on the 66, but then I mostly shoot .38 Spcl. If I was regularly shooting .357, I might prefer the heavier 686.

What's something like that entail (and cost)? What's your trigger pull weight now? Is that grittiness, and 'hitch' gone?

I haven't measured it, but it is a lot better than it was before. None of my k-frames had any grittiness to begin with.

Have him chamfer the charge holes while you are at it.

I don't know what he charges now, but I'd guess it is less than $200 and you will like the gun a lot more once he is done.

EZ decision. Which one doesn't have the hillary hole? Your first revolver should not have such an orifice. If neither of them are hole-less, consider a third option:
