I am looking to purchase a 1911 for my next firearm. I had initially thought I would purchase a Rock Island or Para because of the low cost but I am getting more back on taxes than I had originally thought so I am going to look into something a little bit more mid-range. Remington comes to mind but I am looking for other suggestions for other 1911s in that range. Any comparisons between makes would be awesome. I probably wound want to go much over $1000 (which places the Ruger SR1911 at about my limit).
Thanks in advance!

For the $650-700 the Ruger is the best gun out there. The Remington would be my next choice. S&W if you want to spend a little more. If you live outside MA there are many more options.

Oh wow I thought they ran about $1000.
Thoughts between the SR1911 and R1? Also, the R1 and R1 enhanced?

Go on www.fsguns.com and sign up for Carl's emails. They do not abuse it and you will get heads up when they receive new shipments. Price for Ruger 1911 is listed on this web page also. You will like it!
Good luck!

You gotta ask your self do you want a true 1911 or one that looks like one lol . Guns like the sig ot s&w have parts that aren't true 1911 style . Some sigs don't fit in normal holster .

I got a r1 live the thing to death . Every one i personally know bought the ruger. There front sight has fallen off or there stainless gun started to rust.

I personally think the r1 or the Spartan has the best track record in this price point.
Also if you know a friendly deal Remington has

I bought an SR1911 a couple weeks ago and love it! Paid less than $700. I've put about 200 flawless rounds through it. It shoots like a dream. Good luck with your selection.

Bought a R1 Enhanced. Have shot the SR1911, and S&W 1911sc. I love my R1, probably going to buy the regular version. Honestly I think going with a R1 or a SR1911 you can't go wrong. Just depends on what you want and what you like in looks (I personally liked the looks of the R1 and Enhanced better than the Sr1911 but that's personally).

I have the Ruger Sr1911 CMD and while it is my first 1911, I love it and it is now my go to gun. Very comfortable, accurate, and "fits" me just right. Check out
http://thegunparlor.com/handguns/ Great gun shop and they have a few 1911's within your price range.

While another poster mentioned the front sight falling off and rust issues, I have not had any issues and have shot mine quite a bit along with others that own the same gun. That being said, I have read of people having the issues he mentioned. Ruger has stood behind their product and repaired or replaced problem guns. Take that for whatever its worth.

Best of luck with your choice.

For the price range. The Remington or the Ruger. For cheaper Rock Island.

If I can stop buying Milsurps fir a month or two I'd probably get the Ruger.

I bought a SW1911ES from a NES member, love it...wanted one for years. Commander slide 4.25 barrel, on an officers frame, 7rd mag.

My bias against the sigs is just because I like guns that are closer to a true m1911a1.
That said I'm building a gun on a para frame lol . All and all cost me 600$ . It's all Wilson combat besides the kart barrel . Only thing left is a smith fitting the barrel and slide.

I have no complaints with any of the ones mentioned, but lean toward the Remington R1 either version.

For the money I prefer the Sig XO. Granted it's not historically true and limits your choice of holsters, but as far as providing value as a shooter I think it's a great option.
