A very good friend of mine has 2 Lugers that he has had for years and is looking for an estimation of their value. Let's call them 85 % . The first is a byf, serial # is 2730 Wa635 . All matching numbers except one part (I forget which). 2nd is byf43, sn#9848i, WA135 Any idea of value?. Thanks much, Bob L.

Luger prices vary like night and day. It comes down to condition, condition, and condition. The first one you state is all matching except 1 part number. In luger terms, it is a mismatched plain and simple. It must all match and is classified as a shooter and valued between $700-$1000 based on condition. Are you sure the second is a BYF43? German Luger production was stopped in 1942 and replaced by the P38. The French did produce Lugers post was between 1946 and 47. The best way to give an honest value is posting pictures.

Pics are needed, and we need to be sure these are original condition, not been messed with.Dipped, reblued lugers are pretty common and hurt value a lot.
As Daltrey said if its a mismatch (be sure to check the mags if matching that might help a small mismatch part (toggle pin for instance)
Almost any shooter will go 600, then you go up from there to over 1000.All matching 1500-2500.

Bring them to the Marlborough Gun Show, and show them around. I know for a fact that a top-of-the-line 1911 expert is generally there, so there's likely a bunch of Luger people, too. Details count (one numnber not matching is not much of an issue if it's the mag - more if it's a major part) so having it there to be looked at is important.

Of course, the "appraisals" are free, and may be worth it, but if you get three that are in the same price range, you'll get a good idea. But be ready to spend some time. Collectors like to talk about their passions!
