i am looking to buy an ar soon and was pretty much sold on the s&w mp15orc ($750 w/ s&w rebate) until i handled a new bushmaster "m4 post ban carbine" i liked it a lot but its a little more expensive. i've been quoted $790-850 cash for one but have heard some dealers getting $900+. it has a removable carry handle w/ iron sights and a compliant muzzle brake. also comes with lockable case. has anyone out here bought one of these or is there anything i need to know about them?

I bought one a few years back.
Dressed it up a bit with stock, grip, 2 MOA dot, tac latch on charging handle, little trigger work. Nothing crazy.
Runs great.
Only "one time" issue was the gas key came loose & it started short strokeing. Tighten it down, little lock tite. Problem solved.
No complaints here.

i keep goin back & forth between the smith & the bushy. if the price is close i like the bushmaster better but it isnt worth 200 more.

The Smith & Wesson is a much better rifle in every way, shape and form. We watched a new Bushmaster disassemble itself on the range several weeks ago and that was enough for me...In the price range you are talking about, the fact that the Bushmaster is priced more than the S&W is idiocy...That 'MA compliant muzzle brake' on the Bushy will also suck the air out of the lungs of anyone standing near you - it's a horror show...

Edit: BTW - Cerberus sucks... Added for vellnueve...

No Cerebrus rant today? I'm disappointed [laugh]

having the muzzle brake is a bad thing? i was always told the opposite. the S&W was my original pick because i do plan on using a scope with my ar & the bushmaster caught my eye because for a little more money it had the brake, removable handle & case.

No having a Bushmaster muzzle brake is a bad thing - they are effective as a brake, but throw out a fireball like a pumpkin and are so loud as to be stunning, (yeah I know guns are loud). If the S&W has a naked front end and you want a brake that actually works, you can have a gunsmith thread your barrel and add a PWS FSC 556, or better yet - a battlecomp... I think you are looking at features, rather than quality. S&W is well-ahead of the Bushmaster in quality. You can buy a bare-bones S&W and add to it. What you'll have in the end, is a better, more reliable rifle...

im leaning back to the s&w orc thanks to your input. i figured a bunch of people would have some experience with these 2 rifles. i havent read much about the smith's so that kind of made me nervous.
