Anyone got one of these in 45/70? I've all of a sudden got a hankering for one, and was wondering what the pre sandy hook panic price was on new.
I'm looking at the 1895 gs.

I have an 1895G that I bought used for my first rifle. Its a lot of fun to shoot, but the 45-70 is pricey. I also find the Horandy Leverevolution ammunition has a lot more recoil and is somewhat unpleasant with the stock recoil pad. Overall its a great gun.

A buddy of mine bought one new in Oct, he paid 580 in NY blued. With all the complaints about quality I'd go with a used one, I have an early ported version. The only issue so far has been I had to replace the follower in order to feed lever evolution or it wouldn't feed the last round in the tube.

My uncle back in CA has one, back in the day (before I knew what the hell I was doing) he had me shoot it off his back deck one night, no ear protection. Couldn't see or hear for a week. Wanted one ever since, but I know it would mostly sit in the safe and haven't been able to justify making it a priority yet.

I was looking around Pre Sandy Hook, and $500 seemed to be a decent price for a quality used model. Of course, I'd have to buy the reloading gear to go a long with it, if I want to shoot it more than once a year. You can reload to a fairly low pressure and your brass will last forever...

I have one in 450 marlin older ported model the new ones wood to metal fit generally sucks.

Its got mild recoil. I paid 425 for it used in absolutely mint shape looked NIB. Ive got the dies for it to load it down a bit. Ive used it for coyote and deer. I think if i do another boar hunt this will be my gun

Makes a great home defense weapon

Try to stay away from new production I have a 1895 gbl and it's fun to shoot but the action is rather rough! But 45/70 is pretty awesome so either try to get an actual marlin made one or perhaps check out Henry's 45/70 every action of theirs I've felt has been amazing...
