my son got it into his mind to get a bolt action 22 with his pocket full of 10 dollar bills. So we went out gun hunting today and came home with an oldish looking Marlin Model 80, (which is actually immaculate) and has an oldish looking Marlin "Micro-Vue" 4x scope on it.

I'm looking around for some production history/dates of manufacture information and not coming up with much. The rifle has no serial number. Can't find a manual online.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for some practical information, including a manual?

It came with two 7-rd magazines. Are there any higher capacity mags available?

We might like to upgrade the scope. The little Marlin Scope is hard to use. The scope rings mount onto two grooves on the receiver ... where would I look for a better scope that will accomodate this mounting?

Any information on this rifle will be appreciated.

BTW, I tried to sell the kid on spending a little extra dough and getting a Ruger 10/22. Pete's (in Adams) has three on the rack. He wanted a little bolt shooter. Damn kid!

(We already snuck out to bust off a few rounds ... the Mod. 80 is a nifty little rifle)

The only thing I have been able to come up with is manufactured between 1941 and 1964. A grooved receiver for a scope started early/mid 1950's.

+1 to the boy for choosing a bolt action! Shows he's intrested in quality shots, not quantity of shots.

try looking for info on sears/higgins 103. I believe it is the same model.
E gunparts.com has some parts.
You can always call Marlin to see if they have a copy of the manual.

PS. Marlin still sells mags for most of the 22 bolt actions. 7 round mags, I dont think they changed the design.

I ordered some direct from marlin for my model 25 last year, which I believe is a close relative of the 80. they charged me 14.00 for 2 shipped.
