Mass Compliant Commander-sized 1911s

If for some strange reason you want to stick to guns on the MA list, don’t forget that Ruger offers a MA compliant Commander style 1911 in both a lightweight aluminum frame and a traditional steel frame. Ruger® SR1911® Commander-Style Centerfire Pistol Models

I would also put the Springfield 1911 EMP Champion Concealed Carry Contour 9mm on your list. It’s technically not a “true” 1911 since its has been designed from the ground up as a 9mm, but if I had to chose one 1911 type as my “do all” pistol it would be the EMP. If I was starting out I’d probably go for a 9mm since its cheaper and (in my opinion) easier to shoot than .45 ACP.

I do like my S&W PC Commander 1911 in .45 ACP, but if I had to pick between the two as an all purpose gun I’d probably pick the EMP. Here's how they look compared to each other:
