Here's my newest centerfire rifle. Its a Ruger M77 Mark II. Its a compact stainless/laminate combo chambered in .308 w/ 3x-9x Nikon Buckmaster scope[smile]. Barrel measures at 16.5"; this thing is shorter than my 10/22! Big thanks to my grandfather for giving me this fine rifle!

Man, that's gorgeous.

Did your grandfather buy this for you new, or was it a used gun?

If used, how old is it?

ETA: Hey, I saw your post in the 'Equipment' forum and now know that you're trying to find info on the gun.

Any progress your research?

Some progress.....Ruger produced the M77 in three "generations". The M77 Mark II is the second generation, which came with a different style safety. The first gen had a tang style safety. The Mark II has a three position safety. The Mark II has been renamed the M77 Hawkeye, which is the current model. Most reviews show them as great shooting guns out of the box (SKSRay also mentioned this).

The gun I have pictured is probably 10 to 12 years old. My grandfather purchased it when he moved to Alabama. He has used it a few times, but it has mostly been a safe queen.
