I pick it up in a week. factory ammo is sooo expensive. $137.00 for 150 rounds shipped. The Good news, 250 cast lead 205gr bullets and a set of Redding dies, $65.00. Bullets will be $25.00 per 250 from now on, and I can use W231, same as my target handgun loads. jp

200 grain RNFP over 5.5 grain 231 Win. shot nice out of my Rossi '92, Uberti '73 and both of my Uberti SAA's. Nice choice the .44-40.

1. Double check your manual for the right load. Don't trust my memory.

2.Go slow with the .44-40 as the thin case was will crush if it's not lined up right.

3. One shot works great as a lube since the dies are not carbide.

I still use Lee lube on a pad, and a single stage press. I picked her up today. $370.00 NIB. It is the 24" octagonal barrel w/ case hardened frame. List is $554.00. With the load data I have, it is between the .44 special and .44 mag. Should make a fine under 100 yard deer rifle. I may have to get into cowboy shooting, it makes a nice match to my .44 1858 New Army cap and ball. Both use the same bullets. You should see the .45-120 Earl has. It is the "Quigly" rifle, including the tang sight. $875.00 NIB is a little rich for my blood. JP

I miss my sharps. :-( Mine was a standard 1874 "Business rifle", but my friend who was moving to ME bought it from me to kill a moose with.
