I bought an AK 47, 7.62x39, last week. In all the years I've been shooting, I never owned one, never even shot one. I wanted an Arsenal and wanted a milled receiver, my only criteria. I do want a 74 also but that's for another day. I took it out this past Thursday to Harvard and ran 500 rounds down range. I'm pretty happy with it to say the least. The folks who own them know what I'm saying. The trigger was lighter and cleaner than I expected, with Tulammo 122 or 123 gr, cant remember which, fmj, off a sandbag rest, it did 2" groups. Stock iron sights, I didn't buy an optic yet. I was too lazy to hang a target at 100 but next week I'll see what it will do at that distance. I also wanted to wring out the 30 rd mags I picked up just making sure they function and seated properly in the rifle. I have 4 Russian red bakerlite mags coming in just because they're cool. As for an optic, I was watching an AK Operators Union local 47-74 utube video the other day and they were testing the Precision Optics 7.62x39 2x and 4x AK scopes. They beat them pretty badly and gave them high marks. With our shutdown and lay off looming I think that's the way to go, after spending the money on the rifle I can't justify 500+ dollars for an Aimpoint red dot optic. Oh, I wanted to mention, that 500 round outing, no issues, that AK is a machine and it ought to be at those prices. Jesus, it was kicking brass 12 feet out and about 25 degrees out to the front. Yeah, I'm happy, and maybe the last firearm I purchase in my lifetime. So the old fool, me, was grinning ear to ear just having fun. I'm happy to still be able to get excited shooting. Forgive me for going on. When I get the optic I'll fill you in if you're interested.
Edit: I ment Primary Arms scopes, loosing my faculties.
