At the Winchendon Appleseed this past weekend I found out that my correct length of pull is longer than that of the standard 10/22 carbine stock. A quick custom made stock upgrade using some wood and duct tape made my scores improve significantly (thanks Lloyd!!). The Choate Dragunov stock was recommended to me, but I figure I would ask here and check out all of my options. What 10/22 stock would you recommend to improve length of pull?

Thanks!

Nick, Cheaper Than Dirt, Brownells and MidwayUSA all carry replacement stocks for the 10/22 - why not give them a call and ask them which has a longer LOP than the factory 10/22 carbine? You already know what length you need, so it's just a matter of finding it. Brownells is pretty good about that sort of thing, as is MidwayUSA. Not sure how good the order takers at CTD are, though.

From trying out Sean's Hogue overmolded stock, I'd say that that one is probably right out for you - it fit me pretty well, and I need a shorter stock than factory. (yeah, I know... who'da thunk that a guy with the monicker of "Dwarven1" would need a shorter stock. [rolleyes])

I'm a tall guy with a long length-of-pull (37 1/2" sleeves), and I got my Rifleman patch with an LTR built on the same Hogue stock that Dwarven1 mentioned. It only adds about 1/2" or so over the original stock, but overall, I'm happy with the fit. My only gripe is that I'd prefer a slightly higher comb with the Tech Sights.

In my case, I was interested in approximating the overall pull of a service rifle (specifically, my A2 AR). Since the A2 stock has only an average LOP, I could actually use a little less pull on my LTR if I really wanted to approximate the nose-on-charging-handle fit of my AR.

Now, if I were building up a scoped rifle for hunting, benchrest, sniper, etc, (none of which would be on the 10/22, but no matter), I may want a completely different LOP to accommodate my orangutan-like reach and at the same time, get an ideal cheek weld.

I got the Fajen Legacy stock with a fluted stainless barrel in a Midway package deal some time back. Not the prettiest stock in the world but it certainly fits well...

Keep in mind, Ninsho, that most aftermarket 10/22 barrels are made for .920 barrels, not the factory carbine barrel.

I ended up with the Choate Dragunov Stock, it looks good and the length of pull feels right. Of course until I can get the old sights off and replace them with tech-sights then I won't be able to really hit anything with it, the stock sights are way to short.

I have another related question about synthetic stocks... the magazines no longer drop free, and I think the barrel isn't fitting properly in the barrel channel, should I take sandpaper or a file to the stock to make things fit better, or is that a bad idea with synthetic?

Thanks.

Got some assistance with the tech-sights yesterday, and did some work on the stock to make the magazines fit better. That rifle is a sweet thing now. [smile]
