Sorry for what may be a stupid question but if anyone here is a member of Nenamesck in Palmer could you tell me how the indoor pistol range is setup. I'm looking to join a club and after reading the rules for the indoor range about target mounting, it sounds as if you hang the target all the way back and then move to where you want to shoot?? That seems ridiculous to me unless I'm not understanding it fully. This is the text from the website.

"Gunners will mount their target fully downrange in the target holders or overhead clips and adjust their desired shooting distance by moving back to their desired distance, absolutely no shooting at the archery bales."

Don't know about that particular range, but i have been a member of an indoor range that was run the way you describe. The obvious downside being that all shooters on the line had agree on the distance they wanted to fire. It usually worked fine because most people wanted to shoot their handguns at 7 - 10 yards or so. The only inconvenience arose when you had a bullseye shooter or .22 rifle shooter who wanted to shoot at 25 yds. Not a problem, just bring a gun(s) you'll be happy to shoot at any distance.

(And if you are the only .22 rifle shooter, don't expect to go in there and move a half-dozen 5 yard shooters back to the 25, you may just have to wait.)

I think you'll find post people are extremely fair when it comes to reaching an agreement, it usually went something like this: "do you mind if i shoot two more magazines at X distance? Then you can hang a target and we can move to your distance".

I took my pistol training course there and it has a normal indoor range setup with stalls and overhead motorized hangers. I don't think you can fire in front of the stalls unless it is a match that the club sets up.

Member here. It's motorized. Definitely no walking out to hang targets. Also never heard of or seen anybody firing in front of the stalls. There's 8 lanes

Thanks for the info. Good to know I wouldn't have to walk out to hang targets haha. I'm guessing the web page hasn't been updated or something. Must have been the original setup years ago. How do you like it there? Is it still open 24hrs?

Former member here. When you join as a full member, you get a code for the door. You can go whenever you want. There's no range officers inside or outside. So if you go at 2am, you turn on the lights you need and the ventilation, do your thing, then shut it all done when you leave.

Unless they updated it, the hangers are on a track that you hand pull up and back. The stalls can move forward and back to get different shooting distances.

It's hard to find 24hr places, that's what peaked my interest about this place. My schedule just doesn't allow for the normal range hours. I hope they don't ever get rid of it.

Ok, thanks for the replies. Never heard of a setup like that before, maybe it's different now.

My old club had archery set up that way. It sucked. Only imagine it to be worse on a firearms range. I would look elsewhere if I were you.
