I'm tired of looking and researching so I'm going to let NES choose my Hunting Rifle! I'm following @Woodsloafer advice and just getting a Tikka. Makes sense right? Though, which Tikka? For those that havent seen my other post, I'm going Elk Hunting out west with some friends in the fall. This rifle will be in 300 Win Mag. I know some have said to go down to 7mm Rem Mag or 270 but I've decided to stay with 300 Win Mag. Optics to be bought later and mounted. The options I settled on are as follows:

Tikka T3X Lite

Tikka T3X Lite RoughTeck

The lite comes in at 6.9 lbs and the RoughTech comes in a 7.1 lbs. One is a stainless smooth mid weight barrel without threads. The RoughTech is a cerakoted steel fluted barrel with threads and a break. Overall, the RoughTech cost $150 more but at this point the price isn't the deciding factor.

What say NES?

I prefer the stainless, but that's just me.

Y U NO CZ? Game might not like to get blinded by a sun reflection off a gloss stainless pimp piece.

No, CZ totally f*cked their rifle division.

Released the 600 rifle with pretty much ZERO support.

Great rifles, but WTF, they are a shadow of what they once were. Look at their discontinued page, it is more impressive than anything today.

The CZ600 is very accurate, a great value for the money, IF you are not planning on changing anything on it.

I have a 600 and love it, but I can't get a chassis for it. So lame.

I voted for the roughtech. I only buy rifles with threaded barrels now. even if I don’t put a can on it, I can put a thread protector on it. but I always put a can on it. only way to be civilized.

So the option with the fluted barrel and bolt is heavier? dafuq? You picked the Lite over the Superlite? Save another pound!

I would have had you get a Model 70, but to be fair, that's double what a Tikka goes for. The new triggers on the M70 are great out of the box, and still have great adjustability.

Best of luck on your hunt, and remember - we want pics!

The previous/older M70 triggers were much better, they were they epitome of simplicity and utterly reliable, and also adjustable. It is generally considered the best hunting trigger ever. If you do a search, you will find that everyone prefers the older trigger.

I'd prefer the Boundary over the Waypoint:

Personal preference. I'm much prefer the stock on the Waypoint.

You know what, I've been eyeballing a 20/20 Waypoint long enough. I always told myself, I can't justify the price point when it's only available in a short action. But that's not the case anymore. They now offer it in my favorite North American cartridge. The venerable 30-06. I need to shut up and put up already. No room in the safe. I'll have to figure that out.

I would not call a new 700 reliable. 700 can be all over the place, you either get an awesome rifle or a piece of sh*t.

Truth.. in fact I would go so far as to say the last 10 years of Remington's production prior to the bankruptcy all they made were pieces of shit.

I'd go with the roughtech or a T3x Lite Veil. I think the cerakote on the Lite Veil looks nicer.

Yup. The last good CZ rifle was the CZ527. I hate myself for selling mine. I wanted to like the 600 and on paper it was going to be great with easily swapped barrels, but they f*cked that up.

The Lite Veil is definitely nicer looking, but the best of all is the Hunter Stainless, IMO. I'd buy one of those in 270 or 30-06, seal the barrel channel and inletting, and be good.

$900 right now, you cannot beat that:

If it's a rifle you're going to take out in the woods, I would stay away from wood.

In fact, unless it's a Furniture peace you're going to have on display, I would stay away from wood as a general rule. It's an inferior material to make a stock out of compared to today's options.

I was also going to suggest that too, but assumed he wanted to stay with composite stock.

I have over 30 hunting rifles, (primarily Kimbers, Rugers, and Winchesters) most have wood stocks and have not had issues, even in inclement weather, and I've been hunting with them my whole life (now 57). Just seal up the barrel channels/inletting. Many are stainless, which I do prefer (I love the look of walnut and stainless but that's just me). I also have duplicates that are stainless/synthetic if I know the weather is going to be really shitty.

I have a bunch of these, which are my favorites, perfect for New England hunting. I do have synthetic stocks (not mannlicher though) on a couple (bought stocks from Ruger).

For that caliber: the roughneck because it’s heavier and looks like it has a ported muzzle. Everyone is gonna want ear pro
