Hi,

My LTC just came in on friday night[smile], so of course first thing on Saturday I was on my way to pick up my first gun (Ruger SR22)[smile]. I just came back from the range and quickly put about 200-225 rounds through it (Blazer .22lr), and for the most part everything went well. I did have about 4-5 FTF (where the bullet would get stuck vertically). I did clean it before I went out today and of course after, but I'm wondering if it needs to break in or if the Blazer ammo is the problem[rolleyes]. Any help you could provide would be great! Also if you could dumb it down for me I am still learning![wink]

Lisa,

A. Congrats on your LTC and new gun!

B. When you got the failure to feed, was the fired case still in the chamber, i.e. failure to extract? Or just it extract and eject the case just fine but the next round didn't feed?

C. I've had good luck with Blazer in my .22 semis (I don't have an SR22 though).

D. Take a look at the feed ramp (the little ramp that leads up to the barrel) and make sure that is nice and smooth. If it has any burrs on it that could cause a misfeed.

Thank you! The previous round extracted just fine! I'll take a look at the feed ramp, didn't see anything while cleaning it.

Also while you have it broken down for cleaning, check that the barrel is tightly attached to the frame. There were a few SR22s that escaped the factory with the hex bolt not completely tightened. Just grab the barrel and make sure it doesn't move relative to the frame.

Make sure you are seating the mag well. I have an sr22 with several thousand rounds through it and have had very few issues without but a failure to feed a couple times was my fault for not seating the mag properly... Best of luck and congrats!

ammo is sometimes the problem with this gun although it was supposed to be able to take any rounds, it is actually moderately picky.
i havent had many problems with mine stovepiping, what usually happens for me is that the fired round will extract but it will fail to chamber the next round, but the slide will fully close

ive got approximately 3k rounds through mine. most of the ammo has been federal bulk packs. i tried some pmc standard velocity and i would have a failure to feed the next round one time per magazine. after 50 rounds i switched back to high velocity and the problem disappeared.

Mine had one failure to feed of the second round of one magazine for the first few magazines. Then it happened more often as I fired more and more. The barrel screw was loose. I tightened the screw and no more failures since.

I heard the same thing. Just keep checking it also. Maybe use some Blue Loctite if you don't plan on removing the barrel anytime soon. Good choice on the handgun Lisa!

I got an SR22 the other day and ran into a similar issue with CCI Blazer bulk pack. It jammed moving the round from the magazine to barrel. I threw some Federal Bulk and CCI Mini Mag through it today and don't recall having an issue.

I used to have a ton of issues with my SR22. It would jam almost every other round i fired with everything except for CCI. Then i changed my lubrication just for this gun and have not had an issue since. I get 1 FTF every 500 rounds or so, and thats with federal bulk. A good lube made all the difference for me.

Wow...am I really reading all these issues with the SR22 being picky with ammo?! I did quite a bit of reading on this little plinker and the impression I got was that the general consenus was she eats everything. The Mark IIs + IIIs were the ones that I thought needed more careful ammo selection.

In my experience, it does eat everything, as long as you have the right lube. Hell, I have even used the bucket o bullets and had them feed fine.

Mine has been pretty flawless with any 22 ammo. I haven't tried to limp wrist mine, but be careful you have a tight grip while shooting, this can cause misfeeds as well.

Well, I didn't clean it before I shot it (yeah, I know, bad me). I did just clean it and lube with Hoppes Elite Gun Oil

Thanks for all the replies! I will watch my grip & see if that helps! I've been using Frog Lube, but I forgot to heat it up first. That might be part of it ad well

And that good lube would be?

Not just idle curiosity here... my instructor-discount SR22 should be shipping next week so this will be useful to know! Usually, I just use Triflow for my guns - seems to work fine.

I had a lot of issues with the SR22 with Federal bulk when I first got it. Ran a few hundred mini mag through it, now it seems fine with the Federal. Also being a noob, I probably under lubed the gun, after reading so much about how noobs usually over lube

I have had multiple MK I, III and III's over the years and currently have a MK III 22/45 and standard MK III - never had an issue with any ammo other than Remington which I will never use. I don't have a SR 22 but would be sure it is lubed with any quality gun lube. If you are having issues with failure to feed I would definitely try using CCI mini-mags or any other high velocity round (not Remington) and see if that solves the problem. My 22 conversion on my Kimber 45 and my 22 upper for my AR both require high velocity ammo to function reliably. All my other 22's function perfectly 99% of the time with bulk pack ammo, and virtually 100% time with CCI or top shelf ammo

I just picked up an SR22 as well, but have not shot it. Has anyone ran this stuff?
