New Online Firearm License Application System

Update to my renewal:
  • Created my account at 8pm on 10/16/24 and applied for my renewal (that expires in Feb 2025).
  • Got a call from the PD at 10am on 10/17/24 advising I can stop down any time and drop off the fee and sign the app and they'll process it.
  • Signed the app and dropped off the fee at 7am on 10/18/24.
  • PD dropped off the renewed license at 11am on 12/24/24.
So 69 days from online app to license in hand. The PD processed it in less than 48 hours so the rest of that time was waiting for the FRB.

Where there any interim updates on the website other than "Pending" while you waited?

It will show your new permit when approved
But says not active until the recent one expires
So if your expires say 2-22-25
The new one will not be active until 2-22-25

I renewed in person with my local PD back. . . . . in early November.

I JUST logged into the MIRCS system for hte first time. Nada. Nothing showing. Now I'm going to have to call them and see what is what then call my PD if nothing is going on. Everything went well. No issues. (Taunton). I even got a receipt for the whole thing and it was all online. WURTHURFURK? I'm hoping that because I did NOT do it online to begin with, it's running the old way and I can't see it.

Frickin license expires in 2 weeks. So frustrating. It's almost as bad as when I have to renew my voting license. . . oh wait.

I received this in the mail today.

I'm roughly 4 months out from expiration/renewal.....

Update -

Timeline was as follows:

10/19 Received postcard with new online portal option.
11/11 Applied for renewal in the online portal after setting up an account.
11/15 Called PD and asked if I could drop payment with dispatch or did it have to be in person with LO.*
11/19 Appointment with LO to make payment and complete application process.**
12/26 PD called - new LTC ready.

* Dispatcher said the state got ahead of itself. PD not able to do all online yet. Unfortunately still have to do in person app completion/pay fee. Call was on a Friday they gave me a time the following Tuesday evening. She asked if I downloaded a copy of the online application I had filled out - I did - she told me to print it out and bring with me.

** Met with LO. Same guy as my previous renewal. Good guy, very professional, explains the process and timeframe involved. He said the State blindsided them with the go live of this. They'd first talked about it 2 years ago. First the LO knew of it is he saw apps in the system he didn't remember completing for people he didn't have on the schedule. He said no training or guidance, etc. had been provided, they just turned it on. Had said he heard the same from other PDs.

I pointed out the line on the app for previous states of residence. I told him I had put in 3 but that it cut off the last one. I wondered if some fields were truncated and would only allow a certain amount. Like others have said the declaration form at the end won't allow inputs online. I didn't see an instruction to download it, fill it in and upload - maybe it was there.
Before the appt. I filled it in by hand along with my 3rd state of residence. So in the end, it wound up being the same renewal process as before the portal existed except it went a bit faster since most of the fields were already filled in for him by me doing it online. I got my receipt and I asked if I'd see the status updated on the portal and he said no it would still show as pending until it was ready.
