The bow hunter finally killed the 770-pound black bear he’d been eyeing over the past two bear hunts.

I hear what you are saying, but that bear was very near the end of it's life. It was 770lbs dressed.. after it was gutted. He guessed it was 900lbs when he bagged it.I mean, not surprised he’s getting hate.
I’m all for hunting for food and population control. But him tracking this specific bear for 2 years. … it just doesn’t sit right.
Why? Don’t be an animal rights cuck.I mean, not surprised he’s getting hate.

It’s pretty common practice to bait bears with last weeks stale donuts. NH bans the use of any cocoa product in bait as it can harm wildlife.I take more of an issue with baiting the bear with shit tons of donuts. Giving the poor f***er diabetes.

Long as you eat it, that’s all that matters.Or, hear me out … one could merely respect life and nature.
I get the challenge of hunting one specific animal, that you have to track for a couple years. Some may call that dedication. But if the dedication is for killing something for no other reason than a record, that’s not good dedication.
100%.I hear what you are saying, but that bear was very near the end of it's life. It was 770lbs dressed.. after it was gutted. He guessed it was 900lbs when he bagged it.
That bear was soon to meet his demise and it's end would likely have come by a pack of coyote that recognized the animal was old and weak.
If I had to choose a swift death by an arrow through the heart, of being worn down and eventually ripped apart by a pack of coyote, sign me up for the arrow.
Did you read what the hunter said in the article? Sounds to me like he did the opposite of chasing records based on this:Or, hear me out … one could merely respect life and nature.

Melvin estimated that if he hadn’t gutted the bear it may have set a world record of 900 pounds.
“If you leave them [the bear] intact for more than an hour, they spoil and you lose the whole bear, and I’m just not about that,” he said.
I do get that- even though as @fencer mentioned, the bear's natural demise would probably be pretty horrible, I'd be mixed on taking such a beast unless it was causing problems with livestock etc. Hell of a rug if its pelt is in good condition. I'm not really into trophies but I'm pretty good at hunting what I'll eat.I mean, not surprised he’s getting hate.

Yea, good point. If the hunter wasnt chasing fame, then perhaps the news just got their story from others. He had to report this kill, right? The land owners or the game warden possibly talked to their friends, etc.How did it get out to the news then? He’s now known as the guy who took a bear in NJ of that size. And he saw it on a trail cam and decided to track it down for two years.
Bear hunting in NJ is heavily regulated and every bear taken has to be checked in with F&G. Bears are very overpopulated due to PETA Puffers and restrictive regs.Yea, good point. Did he need to kill this animal? Probably not. At least he used a bow, so extra points for skill.
