Hey guys i have a Norinco ak and there is no way of me mounting a scope on it. I am in the New Bedford area. I was wondering if you guys know of any place off hand that could drill some holes for me so i can put a mount on? I have never had anything like this done before so any help would be great. Or if you have other ideas on how i can put a scope on this firearm that does not involve drilling. I would prefer not drilling. Ive been looking at something like this shown on this site http://www.thecountryshed.com/ak47_scope_mounts.htm The M2-B may work but i dont know enough to know if replacing the factory gas tube is a good idea.

You can use a dust cover mount... although it's unlikely that it would be very stable, the AK isn't exactly designed for that anyway.

I saw on also and came to the same conclusion. The design looks like its not very sturdy and is useless if you have to keep sighting in after every few rounds.

You won't have to sight in every few rounds, but the precision will be seriously compromised as the bullets will impact at any pooint of aim that the scope mount can shift to. Good enough for a CCO or something... not for high-powered glass.

Your only real choice for something stable is to have a side rail mounted. Zero Hour can probably do it for you.

The only problem though is putting the rail on at the correct location. Most side mount AK style scope set ups allow for a good amount of adjustment but even then there is always a chance you'll have to shim a mount. Just be sure to match up your rail with the correct mount when ordering a scope set up. http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/bstmounts.html

Tantal makes a easy to install screw on kit. follow the directions for mounting and you should not have any issues. If you want a factory look they sell rivet style side mounts also. Buying the correct scope mount or scope with intergrated mount is a plus. One note the intended side rail and scope set up for the AKs puts it very high up. Makes for uncomfortable shooting IMHO. After I finish up a few other projects I plan on getting the russian cobra red dot for my Norinco.
Tantal web site has a ton of info on this, they have been out of stock on many items for a long time now. Kalinkaotpics.com is a source for russian style mounts and scopes.
I have the high style sidemount with picitanny rail. If I knew at the time it was so high I would not have purchased it.
Also stay away from the mounts that have the 3 allen key lock down system, I puchased 3 over the years and non of them held position. When I get some time I will post what I have that works for me

Also Larue made a Irondot that mounted in the rear sight posisition, I dont know if they are still in production. IMHO stay away from anything that mounts to hand guards or dust covers.....they just suck

http://www.tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/bstmounts.html I used the mpk2 , BN 01 high mount and a psop scope with picitany mount. Again I would go with the low mount if I knew better @ the time
