It took 26 years, but I finally found my carry piece as a Federal LE half a lifetime ago; a M66 no dash S&W in .357. All my guns are blued or parked (muskets excluded), but I'll make an exception here. As a Fed in the early 90's, "magnum" had become a dirty word, so we carried +P+ 115gr SJHP rounds that the Treasury used. I plan to simulate that with a box of +P 115gr Remington SJHPs.

C. 1975, "Combat Magnum" snubnose. I carried a 4" with Pachmyr grips, another exception here for carry purposes. I couldn't take it home as the FBI back ground check was down, so I have to wait until Tuesday. Very rare gun; great condition. Got it for half retail for services rendered to a LGS. I'll get Pachmyrs for use to slim the profile and make it easier on the hand.

This is compact enough to fit in my ankle holster. With an adjustable rear sight I should be able to dial it in just right.

One of my favorite revolvers. Even with a 2.5" barrel, that all steel k-frame might be a decent burden around your ankle.

I'm surprised to see a blued rear sight on a 1970 shipped gun. The early ones I've owned and seen have usually had stainless front and rear sights. Maybe that was the case in 4" models only.

Very nice! Looks like a pocket 686. I think my 6" 686 has the same sights, or at least they look identical.

Official date 1975; second year for 2 inch.

Quick stop on the way home; 18 rounds of the +P carry ammo. First shots were the low right, then right on. Very manageable recoil. Will be smooth with the Pachmyrs. Cold, wet, drizzle and I had only a polo and fleece vest. Paced off 37 feet. Double action was silky smooth and light; better than my Colt Detective.

My mistake, the Remington is 125gr., 945fps and 248lb/ft. also got a box of Fiochi .357 142gr. FMJTC rated at 1420fps and 680lb/ft; ouch.

IMG_4673.JPG Pachmyrrs came today, so I tried them out with 24 rounds of the Fiochi magnum loads. Wow; it's been 7 years since I've shot magnum - I'll stay with the +P - my thumb is a bit beat up. Storm front moving in; mid 40s, overcast, very windy, 37 paces again by chance. Had trouble separating the orange target from the orange front sight; hence the stringing.
