Man kills wife after triple OT hockey game
Pennsylvania investigators say last week's triple-overtime playoff game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators may have been an aggravating factor in a brutal murder.
Robert Abrams of South Fayette was charged with murder after police discovered his wife's corpse inside the charred remains of their home.
Neighbors say Abrams first claimed that he escaped the blaze that began when a dog knocked over a candle, but investigators say the facts tell a different tale.
"She had 10 episodes of blunt force trauma to the head resulting in multiple skull fractures. In addition she had at least four stab wounds to the chest," explained medical examiner Dr. Charles Williams.
Abrams later admitted that he and his wife had been arguing about finances and the fact that he was staying up late to watch the hockey game.
"The investigation shows that the victim and her husband Robert Abrams had an argument that resulted in a physical confrontation with the victim being stabbed multiple times and also hit with a hammer several times," said Allegheny Police Superintendent Charles Moffatt.
