Ive been looking at complete uppers on Gun Broker. Almost all are in PreBan configuration with a bayonet lug and flash hider. What can I expect it to cost for a local smith to convert it in to post-ban configuration. Are there any legal gotchas that I have to be concerned about when taking possession of the preban upper?

you can do a couple things. You can have someone cut the bayonet lug off. If the flash hider isn't welded on, more than likely you can buy a muzzle brake and replace it.

not sure what costs will be. Prob minimal to cut off the bayo lug.

Just buy an upper without that stuff. You'd prob save yourself time and hassle by doing so. Maybe even a couple bucks.

Plenty of website will ship uppers to most states no problem.

It'll cost you about $45 + the cost of the muzzle brake if desired. Contact JDL Sales. He did one for me for $52 total (including the return shipping) in under a week.

I can cut off the lug and finish the cut and cold blue, $15.00
If the gun has a screw on flash hider I can do one of two things.
1. I can cut off the threads and target crown the barrel. $35.00
2. remove the flash hider and replace it with a muzzle brake then pin and weld the brake in place. $35.00 plus the cost of a brake.
I have done this work for many on this forum ask around.
