I finally finished my Mosin modernization project. I wanted to build it on a shoestring budget, but have a solid rifle. Here are the specs:

1941 Mosin 91/30
Bolt Polished
Trigger Polished/Sear Mod/Trigger Return Spring Mod
UTG Scout Scope Mount
NC Star 2-7 LER Scope
UTG BiPod
ATI Monte Carlo Stock
Barrel Shortened to 20"
Target Crown
Duracoted Upper

They do what they need to do: be accurate and long lasting. And they definitely live up to both. I really do like what you did with the gun. Very creative.

Looks good... I'll take two of them. Can I get one in a 24" barrel? [rofl]

Nice looking Mosin, but I wonder what constitutes a "shoestring budget" when rebuilding on that scale?

The pic is there. By the way, how did you get that barrel so shiny? It looks like its a mirror finish. Is that from polishing it with like 1000 grit for hours?

Sorry guys been a long day. I will try to answer all of the questions I saw.

To address the scope height, low profile rings will be added.

I will post the before pic.

The barrel is duracoated. The bolt is polished. My iPhone could not get a good pic in the light provided.

So, I had an issue at the range today. I am not sure what happened, but I could not load rounds into the internal mag. I found the problem tonight. The "gunsmith" apparently didn't clearance the stock for the interrupter leaf spring. It cannot fully depress before hitting the inside edge of the stock. It is going to be taken care of.

I had to hand load each round. Due to this, I only zero'd the scope @25yds. I was in no mood to shoot 150yds at that point. From the zeroing session it appears to shoot just as well as before. All three of the final rounds were one hole. Granted this was @25yds. I did not take any pics, because there was no point in my mind.

I will keep this thread updated with the fix and target pics.

That sucks about the internal mag but I'm sure it won't be a huge problem for you. Once you get dialed in, that Mosin will drive nails. Keep us posted.

two of my most favorite things in the world!! guns and drums!!
Real nice work on that mosin I usually stay away from sproterizing/modernizing the old stuff but man that looks real nice!!

Wow, just wow. What an awesome job! That looks pretty damn sweet.
My Mosin has been de-cosmo'd, cleaned thoroughly, and shot. That's about it haha
