Question for you AK guys - which way does your dong swing?

This. I hate AK's for many reasons and aesthetics is just one of them.
The furniture on an AK looks like some special needs kid from Moscow made it out of play-dough.
And while I know accurate AK's exist, they are rare in the wild.

The AK just screams commie "best we got... bare minimum innovation"
Still want one because “80s bad guy vibes”

You take that back!

The commies did one thing well - kill people.

Don't know if you are serious or just kidding. To each his own. AK's do one thing well that is kill. Personally I love the aesthetics and the simplicity of its design. It was a low cost, easy to mass produce and to be operated by untrained people. It's 100% bad a** battle tested all the way around and effective. It was meant to be accurate enough to effectively kill on a battlefield.

My biggest dislike about the AK is it was used to take freedom from people and enslave them.

Blame the gun, not the person??????

Certainly not. It is an Icon of Soviet oppression that's all. Nothing but LOVE for AK's! No shame to own one and turn it into a symbol of freedom for true patriots around the globe.

For Soviet troops in BMP's or BTR's to ride up to their objective and overrun any survivors of their artillery barrage by overwhelming them. A solid rifle for backward, poorly trained peasants to rely on.

I bought a Chinese Type 56 as it mimicked "the preferred weapon of our enemy" and I figured I should know something about it.

We had guys bring back the wood furniture from Russian AKs and Iraqi Tabuks to outfit on their AK clones at home.

Training the Iraqi Army in basic rifle marksmanship, we always out shot them with their own AKs.

They'd tell us that, "If Allah wills it, the enemy will be struck!"

We'd ask them to at least point the rifle at the enemy that they wanted Allah to smite.

Nah. Not really. I mean sure, if you get close enough to spray your target. In Iraq they were looking into why so many Marine's kill shots were head shots. It turned out it was just trained marksmen with an accurate rifle shooting at any Hadji that poked his head up.

I rest my case.

Yeah I'm serious. I understand why so many people like the AK and I respect their opinion, even though I disagree with it. Why anyone would buy a rifle that was not as accurate as possible is a mystery to me. I'm not talking about arming peasants, I am talking about a rifle that I bought with my own money that is going into my safe.
I never want to own a firearm that I describe as "cheap, and accurate enough" and as the venerable Col. Townsend Whelen said " Only accurate rifles are interesting,"

But I get it. People like what they like. Hell there are even guys on this forum that like Webley revolvers... and fat chicks. Nope. Not this Jarhead

If you're gonna spend the money on an AK today, I'd hope you at least have a VZ58 already at home

All I got in x39 currently is one of those K-Sports factory bubbaed Norinco paratrooper SKS. Still might knock the pin on the rear leaf and throw on a little pistol micro dot. My public range is full of good ol' Mainahs with fudd hunting bolt deer guns and patriotic American ARs with LPVOs. In comes this homeboy with a draco 9 and what I really want is a nice underfolder with wood furniture.. the quintessential 'bad guy gun' we were all trained on in Counterstrike. The AK report is something special that nice POW is a refreshing change from the typical .223 snaps you hear out of a birdcage.

Boom.

I'll add this, it's my contention that shooters who have no idea how to hit the broad side of a barn, like AK's because there is a built-in alibi if you don't hit your target: "well, it's just a AK. Good enough combat accuracy. Hurrh de duhrrr."

F'ing things suck.
