Does anyone know if there are any ranges local to the south shore that allow members to give instruction? I am an NRA certified instructor and plan on offering basic pistol classes. I am looking for a range that I could join so I could provide the live fire portion to students. My current range, Holbrook, does not allow this. Thanks in advance.

You'll probably need to find a club that doesn't have their own instructors. Holbrook has members that are instructors and they teach the the clubs classes.

Look into Hanson....I know you cant just go there and instruct someone but I thought at one point they where looking for certified instructors? I know this was a issue of instructors useing the range "for profit" and no sort of $ going to the club?
Sadly even gun clubs are not free of politics or the almighty dollar.
I believe the big problem lies with in liability. Insurance plays a factor in all of this also. I have heard rumors of insurance will not cover non members?
Good luck

My home club (Hopkinton) does not allow paid instruction except for the classes offered by the club. There are valid reasons for this policy:

1. The club liability insurance covers officers, directors and "persons acting on behalf of the club". It's hard to argue you are acting on behalf of the club if you are just renting the facility, but easy if the club is getting paid directly by the students.

2. The club is a volunteer org. The club's instructors do it for the good of the shooting community and the club, and are not paid. It makes little sense to let someone else come in an enjoy the benefits of the upkeep of the club in return for a portion of the class fee when club members are doing the same thing but letting the club keep all the excess of revenue over cost.
