I have been trying to figure this stuff out for about a week and I have only been getting confused.

I want to buy a Rem 700 and put it in a JAE 700 stock. The JAE will only take a Rem 700 with a short action. I am looking for suggestions on a short action Rem 700 to put in the JAE stock. I would like to go 7.62x51 if I can.

First of all, is the Rem 700 PSS chambered for 7.62x51 or is it .308 Win only? If the PSS is not 7.62x51, is there a model that is?

I am not sure how, but I am under the impression that the Rem 700 PSS is supposed to be the most accurate model of the 700. Any thoughts on this?

Also, I have read online (so it must be true) that the Rem 700 PSS and the 700 VS are the same rifle in a different stock but the VS is usually $100 cheaper than the PSS. Is that true? If so (since I plan on changing the stock anyway) I might as well get the VS and save $100.

I can’t find either the PSS or the VS on the Remington website. Are these rifles still produced? Is there a current production equivalent? All the model 700’s on the Remington website are making me dizzy.

Thanks,
/John

Rem 700 PSS LTR

The 7.62X51 is the Nato round that is the Win 308. A quick look at Remington site under tactical, shows the item 84467 which is the 2009 model for the 700 PSS LTR. Stock is green rather than black. This a extremely accurate rifle. I have a Rem 700 PSS LTR that was a Davidson LE special run with the 40X trigger and it shoot way better than I can. These look like they went way up in price as msrp is about $1400.00. If you go this route don't go cheap on glass.
Hope this helps

i have a rem 700 pss.i run 7.62x51 through it all the time no problem.if you shot a pss with the stock it comes with you would not want to change it.as far as if they still make it call 4 seasons.they say on the website they can still order them.if you have any other questions about a 700 pss feel free to pm me and i'll answer what i can the best i can.

The cambering really shouldn't matter, unless there is some specific reason you want 7.62mm. The 7.62 is loaded to 50,000psi and .308 is to 60,000psi, but the headspace dimension for the NATO round is more generous. You should be able to shoot either in a modern rifle action like a 700 without any problem since I believe the two cartridge cases are made to the same headspace dimensions.
