I purchased a R1 a couple weeks ago. After shooting a couple hundred rounds threw it I took it apart to clean it. I noticed the ejector was loose. Now, this being my first 1911 I did not know if this was the norm or not. I called remington and they sent me a shipping label and I sent it in. I got it back today, took the gun apart, and its still loose. The repair sheet said that they replaced the ejector. So I called remington. The tech told me because the ejector was pinned in place that its not a concern. Also that they replaced it and made it as tight as they could and there was nothing else they could do.

When I say loose i mean you can grab it with to fingers and wiggle it up and down, and side to side. My buddies sr1911 commander is on there solid, no movement. Is this wiggle OK for a 1911?

I appreciate the help.

That sucker should be in there tight. If it's loose, the battering it will take from spent rounds slamming against it will increase the chances it will break prematurely. Sounds like the holes the ejector post sits in are out of spec. If you can't get Remington to replace it, take it to a good gunsmith. If you don't want to bear the cost, you can try removing the pin, popping out the ejector, and using red locktite to secure it in there with the pin.

I'm sure there are some guys lurking here with more 1911 experience than I have that can chime in.

Yes if the ejector is still loose then something is out of spec. Staking the ejector is something a qualified gunsmith should do. I had a gunsmith stake mine before continuing with my 1911 build. I strongly suggest taking it to greg derr or dave santuri and they will put you right in no time.

For some reason it seems people are having problems with the Remington products lately. My nephew bought a new 1187 to hunt geese with and had numerous problems with it sending it back to Remington twice. The first time it came back they gave him the same sort of story about working on it and fixing it yet he still had the same ejection problems. After the second time they fixed it. He also bought an auto rifle (don't know the model). He would fire a round and the shell would not eject. Seems the ejector was pulling a notch out of the rim but the shell wouldn't come out. Sent it back. They worked on it and told him they fixed it. When he shot it again the brass was ejecting but it was still ripping the rim off. Sent it back a second time and the worked on it again. When he got it back it finally shot fine. The paper work said the gun had improper head space![shocked] A brand new gun. His friend from NH has also had many issues with his Rem R1 to the point that he took it back to the gun shop and demanded his money back. Not sure what is the status of his situation at this time. Thought you'd all like to know.

They sent me a new ejector and pin. The ejector was predrilled so it could not be made tighter. They must pre drill all of them and hope the frames are made perfect. I'm just going to order an after market one and do it my self. Most likely a lot of loose R1 ejectors out there if thats how their putting them togeather.
