Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60?

Ok, I couldn't find a new Marlin 60. I could order one but that would take about a month. I brought my son to a couple shops and he didn't see anything that jumped out at him. We went to Dick's and they had the 10/22 for $200.00, but he liked the Remington 597 in OD green with a 3-9X32 scope for $180. Since he really liked it I got it for him. He and I both shoot it well and it is very accurate. Anyway, I will probally get another .22 for myself but right now we are very happy with the Remington. The good thing is that my son got to pick what he wanted so he's even happier than I expected and wants to go to the range just about every day.![[smile]](/xen/styles/default/xenforo/smilies.vb/001.gif "Smile [smile]")

If he likes it, he'll want to shoot it. He'll go to bed Friday night thinking about shooting on Saturday. He's off to a good start, looks like.
Exactly... I can envision long afternoons plinking and an evening learning to tear down the gun and clean it...My 10/22 became a part of who I was and who I am...
That's good that he found one he liked.
As far as the Ruger or Marlin, they are both good guns, I've owned both. I did sell my Marlin to buy a 10/22 though, I also won a Savage 22, that was a nice gun also but I traded that (brand new, didn't even shoot it) for a 10/22 that I set up as a AR type 22. I have many 10/22's rite now set up as different guns. Tack driver, AR, plinker and so forth.
The Ruger 10/22 just has so many things you can do to it that the other ones can't. Theres no aftermarket supply for them like the 10/22 has.
That said though I still want to buy two more 22's, a Henrey Lever Action and a S&W M&P15-22. Both of those will be real fun guns to shoot !!!

I heard the Marlin factory in Connecticut was going away but the guns will still be made. I believe they will be produced in New York in the future. So if you want a Connecticut made Marlin, yes get one now.
