Looking for a new rifle. Always wanted a .308 and I like the ruger gunsite scout. Then I was on NES and the CZ 527 in 7.62x39 was brought to my attention. I can only afford one. Both guns are similar in price. I believe the CZ is a little cheaper. I like the power and range of the .308, but ammo is getting hard to come by and it is a little more money. The 7.62x39 is cheap to shoot and is still plentiful ( with all things considered). I currently have a ar which is my only fun range toy. Any opinions would be great.

Thanks,

Jim

CZ527 is da bomb. Been shooting one in .223 for several years and it is dead nuts accurate.

Built like a tank too.

The CZ 527 is a nice little iron sighted carbine. It's a lot of fun & cheap to shoot. Plus it's capable of everything the 7.62x39 round can do.
However the CZ527 is a real pain in the ass to scope due to it's proprietary mounting system, questionable quality rings, and the bolt handle hits most scope rear bell housings due to its sharp angle.
I have tried medium Warne, medium Leupold, and factory CZ high rings. I haven't been satisfied with any of them, next move is high Warne rings.

All of the above being said it still like it and can't bring myself to sell it.

exodius has a 7.62x39 527 he just got - might want to PM him.

I ran a couple rounds through it. Nice rifle, wasn't scoped (yet).

Thanks for the info guys. I am leaning torward the CZ cheap to shoot and no 7 round magazine to worry about. I would hate to buy a ruger, and then be told that I can't have a 10 round mag. We'll see what happens.

I have both of these, actually. I like both but given the choice I'd probably keep the Ruger if I had to only keep one. I really like the scout rifle concept.

That said, part of what drew me to the CZ is that it was available in 7.62x39. I like having more than one gun in the same caliber. I just posted about scoping this too: http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/firearms/160335-cz-527-7-62x39-3.html#post2854640

I'll see how it does accuracy-wise with cheap ammo once I get it scoped.

Edit: The magazines for the CZ are expensive and hard to come by. Thanks to one of the members here I was able to locate some extras. They go for around $40 apiece. Ruger makes less expensive ($25? $30?) polymer magazines for the Gunsite scout, but not everyone is having the best luck with them. When I start cranking out some .308 reloads I will set about testing the polymer mags I have more extensively. The steel magazine that comes with it has worked flawlessly.

Edit 2: Had I known about this: http://www.northeastshooters.com/vb...-527-carbine-anyone-have-one.html#post2764525 then I probably could have used medium or low rings, albeit at rather more expense.
