S&W's New Ban State Compliant M&P15...

I was just a bit surprised by your post. In regards to the M&P15, S&W is one of the few companys that actually listened to their customers.

The M&P15 went from your run of the mill AR to having...
- LMT BCG's (a quality BCG with properly staked gas key is a MUST, especially with a carbine length gas system).
- Staked castle nuts
- M4 feedramps
- And now (model specific, they don't make an AWB compliant version... YET), a model with mid length gas system and 1:7 twist.

The M&P15's are the only production rifles in AWB form that have any of the above features.

WOW... then there's the no lock 642's. S&W has seriously impressed me recently.

I carry a Smith and Wesson every single day and have been nothing but happy with it. I also have been impressed with S&W and their offering of the M&P15. I hammered my local FFLs for information about when they would be released in a MA compliant version. Granted, they had a rocky start and unlike many companies, Smith and Wesson learned from their teething pain, listened to their customers and are producing some decent hardware. My opinion is not an indictment on Smith and Wesson. My opinion is that there are other options out there. The latest offering from Smith and Wesson is a totally neutered rifle. If a bare bones, full length A2 stock on a carbine length rifle jazzes some folks - then wonderful. It will be a great, reliable sort of carbine. To however think that at that price range one cannot do better, then that's a bit shortsighted.

I already got my negative rep for daring to disagree with the worldly Hawkeye who amzingly is the only person on the internet to witness Troy BUIS "flying off" and solid machined aluminum rail systems "continually bend" like butter....I'm officially out of this thread and am sorry that I have offended fans of Smith and Wesson, (of which I am one).....Buy with confidence.

that sucks balls! negative rep points for a difference in opinion

I personally don't like this rifle either. I like the M&P15T - looking to build something similar in the near future.

I'm also a SW guy! 3 of my toys are S&W.

Well, in this case, I think one of the parties is representing their opinion as an indisputable fact. I think that in cases like that, such points can be deserved.

Of course, the other guy here likes beating on MI. It's sorta funny.

As the "other guy" - I don't beat up on Midwest Industries - they beat up on themselves by offering BUIS sights that wobble. It's apparently not of much concern to those who own them either, but again - it appears as if constructive opinion expressing is becoming taboo. If you look at the manner by which an MI sight attaches to the rifle, you can plainly see that their pin is noticeably smaller than the channel it sits in. It appears that MI has at least heard these concerns, as all early indications are that their new SPLP BUIS is a nice product...I also just ordered their most excellent front sight tool, sling mount and a BFG sling...[wink]

Do a search on MI sight wobble and you'll turn up far more threads than Troy sights flying off or rail systems continually melting into the sand...[grin]

Staying out now....really....[grin]

I personally like the Troy BUIS... not just like, but prefer them. I haven't ran them in combat, but I have used them in different rifle classes. I use blue loctite on all of my BUIS and never had a problem with them falling off or loosening up (I don't just have Troy's).

Check the ar's on the s&w site and look for the ones with 10rd mags. Most of those are AWB ban compliant and good to go in MA>
