Years ago I would have picked up a Shield when I was looking for something small and compact. Unfortunately, I couldn't rack the slide to save my life so I went with the Walther PPS instead. Curious if this will have more reliability than the EZ .380....

My wife has the same issue (particularly with S&W guns). The glocks she is ok with operating the gun. I have only a brief experience with the EZ in 380 tempted to try the 9 just to see. My concern was with how light the recoil spring was, I mean it HAS to wear out rather quickly with how soft it is.

Saying my shield was a bit stiff at first would be a bit of an understatement, but once broken in with a couple hundred rounds it racks nice and smoth....

the EZ is a hammer fired pistol
compared to a striker pistols,

hammer fired -> cocks on opening -> RSA only works to bring slide into battery
slower cycling time

SFA -> cocks on closing -> RSA must provide enough force to both bring slide into battery AND get the striker to full tension, result is much harder to rack the slide and it cycles much faster under live fire - feels "snappier" than a hammer gun

the point here is that an RSA on a striker pistol is absolutely critical to function. on a hammer fired it does much less.

on all pistols momentum is conserved
mv (pistol) = mv (projectile)
on a locked breach hammer pistol (such as the EZ)
the strength of spring is dictated by the mass of slide
heavier slide can get away with lighter spring
delayed action (e.g. Browning) allows even lighter spring

the spring will not wear out. it's weak by design and will function without issue. if it were much stronger it would short stroke.
also try cocking the slide before and after pulling trigger....you'll notice a difference due to the hammer spring which plays a role in slowing down the slide under live fire
