shooting papers getting boring

There was a time clubs let you shoot at almost anything as long as you cleaned up, and no glass. Often these were unwritten rules, everyone knew what the rules were even when there was no big fat rule book.

What happened to this? Well a**h***s that felt they had no obligation to the community, people who would say "there is no rule stopping me" so they would leave a mess and shoot at glass. Well now there are rules.

I actually tape coins to the bullseye.
I'm confused, after the first bullet punched the coin through the paper, there'll be nothing for the rest of the bullets to hit. I guess that's ok if you're just trying to show you can shoot through a coin sized hole, but I want to know my group size. [wink] [wink]

Try some local steel plate matches, bowling pin shoots, 3 gun, etc. Lots of standing around and watching but fun.

Okay, here is a fun one. Take your favorite 22 rifle. Get a of lollipops like these.

Get an 8 foot 2x4 and drill a bunch of holes in it so you can stand up the lollipops. Put it out to a 100 yards and shoot. They disintegrate! Even more fun if you have young child to share the fun with.

Also, don't shoot for a 25. Just shoot the bird you called for. If you're thinking about the score, you're not thinking about the target.
Amen to this one ... I have shot more 24's than I can count ... never shot a 25, and it was almost always the final shot that I missed ... Trap can be a head game! :)

Usually on rifle targets with several bullseye. Just mixes it up

One of the top shooters at my Club says, "Most Trap targets are missed by six inches," then 'calipers' his head.

IMO, Unitl 1 or 2 birds out of 100 make a real difference, you don't need a "good trap gun."

You just need a gun that fits.
I used to shoot trap in NH when I was I in my early 20's. I used a Mossberg 500. I got a lot of friendly crap for it, but I would get 18-22 every string. I sucked at pointing so I aimed and had to shoot them waaay out. They always said they didn't know how I hit them so far away and I said I couldn't pick them up at the trap house so I had to aim.
My point is every shotgun is just a tube so a 500, and 3,000 dollar shotgun are not all that much different.

Cue shotgun snobs.

Lol they can be very different, the real question is, /will it matter/ in most cases? Probably not.

It's law of diminishing returns vs comfort etc.

@dhuze the place i shoot sporting clays at... nobody runs a gun over 2k.or so. Once in a blue moon a guy with a Kreighoff, etc or whatever will show up, but they're not doing any better vs the other guys with the cheaper shotguns. The guy who is probably the record holder for first place finishes in competitions there is like pretty far up there in the age and I think he runs like an A5 or a Beretta OU or something like that but it's always the same shotgun. It's nothing exceptionally fancy. One of the guys I shoot with on the reg probably has well over a dozen shotguns. One of the best rounds I've ever seen him shoot was with this old beat up like pump shotgun from the early 1900s it was either a Remington or Winchester I forget which but it was pretty freaking old. It was not corroded at all but let's put it this way the finish had this like patina on it where there was no finish anymore. 🤣
