I've got a Ithaca Model 37 Ultra Featherlight 20 ga w/IC barrel, purchased new in '80. I'd like to get a Modified choke barrel for it. Is this something that can be had without much detective work, or would it be easier to get an entire gun?

I would suggest Gunbroker. There is often many older used Ithacas on there, barrels and guns. I would look for something made about the same time as your gun although older barrels would work. Not sure about the new stuff from OH that would more than likely be pretty pricey. I have seen older barrels on GB broker in the $120-$150 range. If you look hard enough you may get the whole gun for that price range....vent rib may cost a bit more....good luck. I have several Ithacas from the 60's, 70's and 80's - great guns.

The problem with Ithaca is that they weren't very good at maintaining manufacturing tolerances over the years. I have three of them, all 12 gauge, all 2 3/4", all from the original Ithaca works, and none of the barrels can be swapped between them. I would advise try it before you but it.

Have you considered having it threaded for choke tubes? One of the best shotgun barrel guys in the USA is Mike Orlen in Amherst. He'll tell you if it can be threaded.
If you don't want to change the original look of the gun, there are a couple of Ithaca forums that may be helpful - try Google.
AFAIK, the original Ithaca company changed the machining at some point in the '60's so that their barrels became interchangeable. If you want to test that out, PM me. I have a 20 gauge from 1969 with a Modified barrel, and we can see what fits what. I'm also in western MA. And no, you can't have my barrel.

I have 2 of the ultra-featherlight's....both 20ga....one is the traditional pistol stock, the other is the english version. These guns are very rare.....do some research before thinking about selling it

Oh, I'm not going to be selling my very first gun.

Apparently if the barrel has an anvil stamped on it, and not a serial number, it's an interchangeable one. Mine has the anvil.

I'll try my luck with those sites listed. I've got until October...

Thanks all for the feedback.
