Did a search, couldn't find any threads on this topic.

Looking for pictures of a mounted or securely tethered secure container in a passenger vehicle.

I'm car shopping for a hatchback and am looking for approaches to proper (legal) and responsible (common sense) storage of a handgun in a car in the absence of the out-of-sight=out-of-mind approach of a trunk.

Also of help - when there's altering of the vehicle required, please provide a description of techniques or issues encountered and how you went about ensuring that you didn't break the car.

I use this with the cable wrapped around the frame of the driver's seat and stow it under the seat.

while i haven't left my gun in the car unatteneded, I have the exact same case and cable. bought mine at Four Seasons for $30.

If you keep it out of sight, you'll be fine. but I imagine that a good pair of wire cutters could get through the cable without hesitaton.

Holy crap! Popper is walkin' the dog!!

I'm not looking to store an apocalyptic arsenal in my trunk, just want a place other than my locked glove compartment ([rolleyes]) to store a handgun with a smidgen of peace of mind.

IIRC (I didn't read that whole article but recall him telling the story on Stern) that he got in trouble for having "secret compartments" in his car and that all the guns were legally owned/registered.

Is there a law in MA that says you cannot have "secret compartments" affixed to your vehicle for the purpose of securely storing guns?

It's rediculous that I can't store an unloaded handgun in my lockable glove compartment, but I could leave it sitting on the seat in a lockable leather case that could be opened up with a razor blade in 2 seconds.

Oh crap, I'm trying to make sense of our laws again. gotta stop doing that.

I just read the article. At first you're thinking, "So he had some weed, 11 firearms, and was doing 111MPH...what's the problem? Sounds like a good day off.

Seriously though, if you look at the picture, his claim of "survival" weapons may be true.

what about something like this

or this:

Mass Legal?
was thinking that would be a good way to transport the longarms to the range so things don't shift en route.

also does a trigger lock satisfy the requirement or does it need to be in a locked container?

Large Capacity Long Guns : Transported unloaded in a locked case, locked trunk or other secure container!

We used the trunk lid mounts and they beat the crap out of the rifles and shotguns. They didn't hold the long arms tightly in place and they rattled around.
Everything is mounted up front between the seats now.

I use one of those 30 dollar cable and small box locks, ran it through a piece of metal in the little flip up storage compartment of my suv's trunk and there it sits...

Are these boxes bolted to the car required by law in a particular scenario? Or are they just for the owners piece of mind?
