SHTF with C&R guns only?

1897 Winchester trench shotgun & "Artillery" Luger .... w/ a "Boys Regular" haircut.

Pistol: 1911, CZ82, P-38/1 or Tokarev.

Rifle: SKS, Garand, Mosin, or Mauser

For when the hoards get too close for comfort: German MG42. (by that point I dont think a green card will be required[laugh])

Awesome answers! So far the lead seems to be Garand/1911 combo.

For the 1911 category, any clear winners out there? Aside from Miss Sistema?

Very good point about milsurp == shtf gun.

dude, you can't have it both ways, it's either hippie or commie, commies hated long hared people, something about not being like the rest of the comrades and shampoo shortages.

He's long-haired and he's only got commie guns. He claims he's not a hippie (and given the head-banging music he listens to, I believe him - any self-respecting hippie (or redneck) would run screaming into the night when they tried to listen to that stuff!) Ergo... F'ing long-haired commie. [laugh]

SKS and a Tokarev.

My G-d, there's another one. [wink]

Hmm... maybe the reason that the AK is commonly seen with 30 round mags is that there's a serious zombie problem in Comblock countries? Makes you wonder...

The FAL I built doesn't qualify as C&R, but close enough for me. So that and the WWII 1911A1. If I can't cheat with the FAL then the SKS will do.

G series FAL's are on the C&R list so they count ;-) along with all the others already mentioned I'll add an M2 would be pretty handy as well.

1911 for the pistol due to parts availability and ammo.

Mosin because it's made up of 7 parts total and I have spares for everything but barrel/receiver. Crates of ammo can be found all around too.

Ideally I'd like a garand because I think ammo would be even more available and want a semi-auto, but might be tougher to find parts. Then again, every shop I go to has a few garands and none have mosins right now

... ammo would be even more available ...

Is that true? There's lots of commercial .30-06 out there because it's a very popular hunting caliber, but most of that you can't actually use in a Garand, at least not without an adjustable gas system. I haven't exactly seen a lot of stock-Garand friendly .30-06 out there, at least not outside of gun shops.

3 things wrong with The B*tch:

1) Open top exposes you to small arms fire from above

2) No defensive MG's aside from the M2 AA defense

3) 76mm HV gun was optimized for anti-tank work vs. anti-personnel.

If you're looking for a C&R light armored vehicle I say go M24. All the speed of the M18 with 2 additional MG's (hull and co-ax), top armor and a lower velocity 75mm gun with more effective HE rounds.

Actually I do have both M1 Garand and an M1 Carbine, an 03A3, a Colt 1911, and a US made Savage Enfield.[laugh]

And don't spread this around but I have a few ARs too.

Praise Saints Browning and Garand! He has seen the LIGHT!!!

So, Ray... when are you changing your screen name to [strike]milsurps4me[/strike] AR Ray?

And can we turn on the strikeout feature again?

CRAP! Thought I was doing good with tank killer!

Well if you're expecting to face tanks the M18 isn't a bad choice but if you're facing hordes of looters, the M24 was used to great effect by the French in an anti-personnel role at Dien Bien Phu

i can put about 500 rounds through my 1911 w/o cleaning it w/o issues.

i don't own any C&R riles.

therefore,

Glock / AR

i can put 4x amount of rounds through each, i've tested them both....

shaking my head [thinking]

Just like in ww2 tanks can be taken out by bottles of gas on fire. Or soon or later you have to put fuel in them. And have to come out of the the tank. That when you take them out with your m1.

Yes, but just before the interweb goes blank, I will invite all members of the NES SHTF response Squadron to ride in my tank/tank killer.. First stop will be the liquor store, and maybe a BBQ joint.
I don't know how long the ride will last, but it will be a fun one.

Mental exercise fail [wink]

How about an M-14 (I think they hit C&R status) with...I don't know, maybe an old S&W M&P wheelgun?

As far as a shotgun goes consider one of the Savage, Remington or Browning A5 design guns. Like this Savage. A shot extension tube not too long will work even though you can't clamp it to the barrel.
