I have been wanting to shoot the Sig P229 .40 S&W, and was wondering what others thought of this who have shot it? I am looking for a slightly lighter, smaller carry gun, since my 1911 I carry now can weigh you down after wearing it all day. Would like to go .40 cal too. I don't like the feel of Glocks, as I have shot them quite a bit. I do love the balance and feel of my SA 1911 and Beretta 92fs. I like pistols that have a good feel and balance, and I like a little longer grip so all my fingers fit on it (6'3" tall). Anyone have feedback on this gun? Thanks.

I've had several P229s and feel that they are one of the best handguns on the market. From what I have heard and read, this gun was built for the .40S&W cartridge. I would highly recommend it to you.

I always thought they were cool but i've never owned a sig. I think i'm destined for a life of polymer anyway.

I have a Sig 229 .40 and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Reliable, accurate and top quality. I have over 750 rounds through mine and not 1 problem. Did I mention it was made in 1994?

Great gun. It's the most accurate .40 S&W for me. Eats everything I put in it so far. No FTFs, no FTEs. And it was build for this chambering. Not the other way around where some manufacturers (no names mentioned) had an existing platform and they made it fit into the chamber.

Try one out. But caution, you'll probably want one!

Sweet little gun. I love mine to death. It's a brick to CCW though if you're used to the 1911. Lighter but definitely bulkier. If you want lighter but don't want to train on a new platform check out the S&W 1911PD Commander. The P229 is 30oz. and the 1911PD is 28oz. Difference in recoil and muzzle flip is almost negligible between the PD and a steel full-size.

I should add that I carry my M&Pc (.40) more often. It's lighter and shoots well (free state trigger) but mostly because it's legal for me to carry in MA with the 10 rounders. My Sig has 12 round mags (post ban)

Love my .40 P229...just love it. Every now and then I switch for giggles. Lately, I've been carrying an HK. In the end, I always come back to the 229.

A good holster and belt takes care of it, I'm wearing mine now, not a problem.

Sig 229 in .40S&W is one of my main CCW. Love it, accurate and rock solid construction. It's a joy to shoot. Try one and you'll be hooked :) I also have a Sig 226 in 9mm ( IDPA use) and a very nice Sig 220 ST in .45ACP for cold weather carry ( Thanks Lugnut!!!!!!)

Sig

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I am going to try and find one to shoot before I buy. I like to get the feel for a gun before I spend large amounts of money. I had heard a few good things about these, but not like this. Not one negative review. Sounds like it is a very well made firearm. I will check it out asap. Now if I can just find a good range to rent it from to try it......since Boston Gun Range in Worcester is closed....hmmm

Sounds like a good plan for any significant purchase.

Where are you based? I'd be happy to have you try mine at WPRC.

You're also welcome to try my Sig 229R 9mm if you're near Woburn. I'm a member at Mass Rifle Assoc. in Woburn.

I don't own one but I have shot one. By far the best all around pistol for range/carry on the market today. obviously not including the classics you know 1911/smith snub.

SIG 229 probably my favorite pistol.

I have a 229R in 9mm. I'll never sell it. If I could only have one handgun, that would be it.

Oh yeah, I don't mean weight I mean distance off the body. Harder to carry the 229 when wearing more fitted clothing. Once you go single stack you don't go back. [laugh]

+1 same here just drop me a line if you ever want to go.

Thanks

Thanks again for the feedback. I am going to try and check one out this weekend. It seems everyone likes this pistol, and I am anxious to hold and get the feel for it. I actually just joined HSC, and am jusy waiting for my cards, then I will be there shooting quite a bit. Thanks for the offer to let me shoot it and I will let you know. I first want to hold it, which tells me a lot right off the bat.
