What exactly are the advantages of using an extended forearm with a low profile gas block and front BUIS as opposed to the normal forearm and a normal front sight?

Anything besides the obvious: More rail space, easier to replace front sight?

I can't really decide which I want for my AR build and I don't have the money right now for one of each. [smile]

Opinions?

So you don't run out of room to hang your gadgets and you can win the "I got more sh!t hangin off my AR contest" ?

That's part of it...If you read around, there's some thought about not using such a set-up for a fighting carbine and I subscribe to it. There is the possibility of mounting a light at 12 o'clock, but other than that - I personally see no real purpose to it...Lowpro gas blocks are great for sniper/counter sniper rifles in my opinion - leaving the optic free of obstruction from the standard FSB, yet still having the ability to go to irons should need arise or optics go down...On a fighting carbine, the standard FSB set-up is just fine and to me, the lowpro gas block and folding sights are doo-dads that boil down to a personal preference...
