Statie looses ltc after dui crash.

Don't think anyone disagrees with that - drunk or sober he should be held accountable for injuring someone.

Sorry scattered a bit this morning. In response to "big deal...only because someone was hurt". I somewhat agree with that. Driving drunk shows irresponsible behavior, some may not agree and yes I've been guilty in the past but no longer make the decision to do that. Maybe they should/shouldn't be punished if you do OUI/DUI. You should absolutely be punished to full extent should you make an irresponsible decision and someone else pays for it. (Whomever) makes their bed and should lie in it.

Agreed - OUI is proof that injury was not incidental to an accident but the result of poor behavior

But it won't.

A deal will be quietly cut after all the public fuss has subsided - which is exactly what happened when the state trooper was up on an unsecured firearm storage charge a couple of years ago.

It really depends on the injured friend and his family. Where there is a victim who was seriously hurt, if the friend wants blood or the family does, I don't think this can be buried. If the friend doesn't want to push anything, it will be pled down to nothing and forgotten. Doesn't mean the cop keeps his job though, if the MSP don't like the guy, they'll use this to get rid of him.

only bc someone got hurt and there's nowhere to hide on this....if he just hit a telephone pole and no one got hurt he'd have got paid leave and been back in 2 weeks.

About 10 years ago a friend drove home from another friends party after 1/2 a bottle of tequila and other drinks. Some how he made it past a few lights and 6 or 7 big turns. Didn't make the next turn though and hit a tree. He must have passed out because the tree was straight and the road turned left, he drove straight into it. He was going pretty well, totaled a new 3/4 ton lifted chevy pick up truck and nearly tore off half his lip. Brother in law is a MSP in central mass, father a MSP at logan at the time. No charges were ever filed, no arrest, not even a ticket.

Doesn't quite work that way in a criminal case, As the crime is against the state (Commonwealth) not the person. That is why when you see criminal cases posted it is, "Commonwealth of Ma. vs. Sammy Seabag". The family does have some say on the civil case, But even that can be over ridden by the Insurance company who wants to get their money back for the medical bills.

Yeah, it's in the courts now so it's not really going away away but they can certainly plea it down to something minor or a CWOF if they want. Prosecutorial discretion. Tough here though because of he publicity it's received and the injury.
