Sti trojan cutting it close

USPSA single stack and carry optics have not to exceed limits.

Production has a <= +2 ozs over list weight

They are in the appendix

Also Mike does the Vickers release fit the latest interpretation?

This is interesting. I have not seen that answer before. In previous discussions (I forget what board it was on) the gist was that OEM only was allowed, but it would appear with that interpretation it's become more liberalized. The Vickers release is in between the OEM stock and OEM extended releases in height, however, the corners are also rounded slightly, if you look at it close....

It seems retarded, but (for me) that extra .02 mm or whatever it is, makes a huge difference in getting leverage on the release with small hands....

Well, the Dawson Ice magwell did the trick. The Trojan is down to a trim fighting weight of 42 5/8 oz. As long as I don't let the grime pile up too much it should remain legal. I also changed to the aluminium guide rod, from the short GI guide rod, but that was a wash.

My only mistake was ordering the 'no gap' insert. The website says that it requires the Dawson mags, which I have. What they don't tell you is that you need the Dawson lip-less mags. Once the replacement insert comes I should be all set.

Also, REALLY fast service out of Dawson!

I went through a similar experience/mistake last year with the Dawson ICE magwell on my dan wesson. I originally bought their standard mags before I decided to get the ICE magwell with the standard (gap) insert. Then I later changed my mind and wanted the no gap insert so I had to buy new basepads and the no-gap insert...Waste of money due to me changing my mind when I decided I wanted the magwell for IDPA...

Anyway, be VERY careful when you try to remove the plastic insert. It can be a PITA and I broke one when I had to remove the insert to tighten the socket cap screw that tightens the magwell against the MSH (make sure that screw is snug and/or use some blue loctite). I found it helped to put it in a wood/padded vise (since the insert is flush with the magwell it's hard to grip just the insert itself) then use a flat tip screw driver and push down and forward in that little cutout notch on the side of the magwell. If that makes any sense.

Interesting. So it the insert stuck out beyond the magwell?

No, the issue was actually inside the magwell. The inner portion of the insert was slightly oversized and not flush with the interior surface of the magwell. That resulted in the mag not seating properly.

Ohh gotcha. Did you contact Dawson about the issue? Just curious. I'd imagine they would have sent a replacement? They sent me a replacement insert for 50% off after I broke it [laugh]. Thought that was pretty good service considering it was my fault...

I didn't bother. I figured that the insert was probably molded that way and any replacement would have come from the same mold. Besides, Greg Derr fixed it in about 10 minutes.
