Talk to me about DA/SA semiautomatics

I'd like to try one. Only used single actions and strykers in autos. Never understood why anybody feels the need for more safety (or complications) than the 1911 or Hi-Power had :) . I do love a revolver with a GOOD DA pull though. Have my eye on a 39-2. Maybe If someone brings something nice to the pumpkin shoot I'll try and squeeze a few rounds off.

My favorites that I own Sig P226, CZ 75, SW 39-2 and CZ P01.

I generally hate DA/SA at this point, about the only ones I can fathom buying are some of the custom shop CZs or the Sig Legion. Mainly because most of the DA/SA guns on the market have shitty triggers that annoy the piss out of me. It's not that they're not serviceable, accurate handguns just not my preference.

When I started shooting I went through this phase where I had a shitload of DA/SA guns. I had a ton of Sigs, HKs, and even a Beretta 92. They're all gone now. The only ones I really miss are some of the
old sigs I had... some of them either had trigger jobs done to them or the guns were just well used enough that the trigger felt good.

The hk trigger is flat out criminal. On standard models. On their high end ones it's ok. But hk drives me nuts. I'm not shelling out 800+ for anything with that pos trigger

The DA trigger on the two USP compacts that I had (since sold) was horrific. I'm told that the HK45 trigger is improved, but I haven't tried it myself. I've also been told that judicious polishing can improve the DA trigger on the USPc, but again that isn't something I ever tried. The SA trigger was OK, but nothing to write home about.

As a lefty, I would say the P226 is less complicated than a 1911...just draw and shoot... Yes, the first pull's going to be a little longer, but no manual safety (or grip safety) to deal with.

That said, I usually carry a Glock 19. But I do carry the P226 depending on the particular factors of a given day.

If you're ever around Hopkinton...I'll be glad to share my 39-2.

Even the Navy SEALS recently switched from their long-standing Sig P226 to a Glock 19. That should tell you something.

I did my Handgun 102 class with a P226 and I feel most comfortable with that gun, it's 75% training and 25% firearm choice, imo.

I chose a Glock 42 for carry, not really cause it's striker fired but cause it's so compact, fits my hand well and has that Glock reliability. I wish Sig or HK made something comparable in DA/SA.

I love the trigger on my H&K 45C.

I love the 45c but find the grip too smooth for bare hands. I tried a Talon grip but found that too rough, so I gave up.

for me if HK incorporated the P2000/P30-type rear mounted decocker on the HK45/HK45c, it would have been a perfect design. i just don't really dig the side-mounted decocker/safety on a carry piece. just my mileage.

I think the button decocker is ****ing stupid, actually. Like as in full retard 110% ****ing stupid. If you have to decock, it should be a lever. Not some gay button. You do realize, that even on the USP guns, you could get a decock only lever, if you didn't want the safety? They should have carried that into the newer DA/SA guns. A decock button takes options away.

yup. i'm not opposed to the decocker lever on the USP and HK45, i just prefer the P2000 style decocker button. it keeps the side profile of the pistol smooth and less stuff hanging off the side. that being said I'm a USP fanboy. my USP 9 is a V1 setup so has the decocker/safety on the side. i like it. great shooter. but the P30L with the rear decocker or P2000 well those are some of the sweetest shooting and feeling pistols i've ever touched. the rear decocker for me is just awesome. it also works left-handed unlike the sig or traditional HK setup where it needs to be swapped to the left.

I Didn't like the rear decocker cause I use my left hand to decock. I find HK triggers not so good and the guns are snappy, but they sure do look great and feel great in the hand.

Go get yourself a Ruger P series. You'll like it. (Despite DR Grant's whining)

They are good for what they are, in the price class they are in. But vs the other half of the pistols mentioned in this thread, they are kinda shitty.... but I would still take a P95DC any day of the week over a shitload of other stuff in its price class. They work... and work, and work...
