Hope they weren’t waiting to hear this 😂

Happy Labor Day weekend! Hope you're responsibly enjoying your 72 / 96 + hour liberty.

The indoor ranges will be closed starting Tuesday, September 3, through Thursday September 5. The indoor range floors [over which bullets pass] will be resurfaced.

This is on the website, this has been a point of note for the past two meetings.

Almost any caliber......None of the big boys are allowed, and I really wouldn't want to fire a 454 Casull or 460 S&W indoors anyway.

Stumpy, there is no need for a sponsor. The club hasn't required one for 15-ish years, and even then it wasn't a deal breaker. That's a leftover from the 50's and 60's when the club had nearly two hundred members.

Not sure what you'd meant by "sunset to sundown" - outdoor range hours are 9AM - sunset Monday through Saturday, 10AM - sunset on Sundays. Today, sunset is 7:18.

The initiation fee is $150, and hopefully it's a one time charge.

There isn't a 'waiting period' per se to join, it's that the club only accepts 25 new members per month. Not trying to keep people out, the idea was to control growth so that we didn't overgrow our facilities.

No freak outs if one takes out the scary Sturmgewehr 22LR copy plinker indoors?

Completely kosher to use indoors.

The worst thing you're likely to encounter is someone interested in your cool gat, and asking where they can get one like it.

Is Taunton going to have the petition to sign? I haven’t been to the indoor range since orientation 10 years ago.
Yes. Available any time in the office, or at scheduled shoots to include Tuesday night gallery matches, Trap, and this Sunday's steel plate shoot. We have a decent number of signatures already - but every bit helps!

The east parking lot has now been paved - today. Please don't ignore the caution tape which is up, this is fresh asphalt.

As at least 175 of you know dues notices are out. Due by December 31, please, even if you owe $0. This helps us figure out which members have passed over the course of the year.

No club meeting, steel shoot, or other unusual activities on the 29th as it will be the fifth Sunday this month.

October 6 will be the annual business meeting where the Executive Board is voted upon.

We still have petitions available to sign. If you're a registered voter and haven't signed yet, please take this opportunity.

Should have sent petitions out with the invoice

It’s a shame they don’t allow pistol caliber carbines like the mp5/sp5, henry homesteader etc. at the indoor range. My family would have joined already for the 24 hour access.

Ask @Bender about why, but prepare yourself for the most convoluted and dumb reasoning as to why. Regardless though no more 50oz rule and a brace makes that mp5 a pistol :).

@Yotacrawler We'll give @Bender a break and I'll do my best to explain the nonsensical reasoning.

You see some members of the club are really stupid and at some point, they saw somebody shooting a PCC and thought it was ok to bring in their AR-15 - they need to protect the backstop at all costs!!!!! These dumb-dumbs though are smart enough to be able to differentiate between a 22lr AR-15 and a 5.56 AR-15, they can also differentiate between a pistol brace and a stock on your MP5.

Now why wouldn't only having the list of allowed calibers be enough to prevent this? Great question, that they can't seem to answer.

So basically some dumb people in the past did bad things and they blame everyone else for it. Sounds a lot like the same logic gun grabbers use to rationalize why you can't have an "assault weapon" because somebody across the country did a school shooting.

E-Board and Maura would probably get along really well.

Good for you. You genuinely are being an ass.

I don't set policy. I do have something of an inside line of many things which happen at the club, and since I do a bunch of orientations and other ancillary duties I do try to share info which can help people enjoy the club to a greater extent and avoid problems.

People really do shoot 7.62x39 and black tip 30-'06 M2 ball indoors. The backstop will handle that; the target carriers, lights, etc don't respond well. We have repeatedly changed the target carriers to reduce spall generally, and to lower the incidences of people shooting them - but it was a pain having to re-weld several every month.

With perhaps one or two exceptions, range rules are reality based. Aside from those one or two exceptions there aren't any rules saying "don't have fun". You can shoot full auto on the ranges [indoor and outdoor]. There is no caliber restriction, at all, on the outdoor ranges - just that the projectile have to stay in the range. People do shoot cannons there.

If my comments really bother you that badly, there are several constructive things you could do. The two easiest for you would be to ask the board to boot me as a range officer, or ignore / block me on NES.

Edit: Changed the final words of last line from 'block me on the board' to 'block me on NES' for clarity.

I can confirm that eboard would not get along with Maura.

But my outstanding question is why would one want to shoot a rifle indoors when we have a wonderful outdoor range.

Maybe you're new to Massachusetts but we have bad weather here and days are short in the winter - sometimes people only have time to shoot when the outdoor range is closed.

Why would anyone who can't shoot straight use the far lane against the wall? Oh yeah, maybe that's why it was taken out of commission.
